I had the original version of this game and then immediately bought the Steam version when it came out. To date, it is one of my favorite games of all time. Don't let it's age fool you, this is a tough game when it comes down to it. It is a point-and-click but the design of the ship (even in old graphics) still is striking. You will find yourself sucked into the story line every time you play it. To this day, the soundtrack still gets stuck in my head. Plenty of replay ability here as your decisions affect the outcome of your mission.. doesn't run foron Windows7+ rip.. Don't buy this! I couldn't see the words on the screen.. It was honestly an amazing surprise to see this masterpiece of video gaming from the 90's come to Steam where it can finally get more recognition that it deserves. From my earliest memories of PC gaming this has remained one of my top and all time cherished games not only for it's introduction to it's interesting point and click gameplay but the atmosphere it set that still both thrills and haunts me to this day. The story begins with you, Frank Carlson, reminiscing and regretting that fateful voyage many years after from his flat in London during World War II. Used and discarded from the service he wonders what things would have been like if he had managed to do things differently on the night the titanic struck the iceberg. Suddenly air raid sirens scream out and a bombing run begins from the Germans. An bomb falls in your street and the flat is destroyed yet you are somehow transported back to that night onboard the Titanic. It's never quite explained why but it's an interesting way to relive Carlson's past and your new decisions can alter history. Not just the fate of the characters or the ship but the fate of the world. That may seem dramatic but it's true and done in a pretty believable way. From talking to other passengers, exploring the ship and solving puzzles you manage to piece together the conspiracy that is taking place and ultimately get an ending that determines how well you did. And that's where the fate of the world come into play. The puzzles are pretty simple as you might expect from a point and click game but some can be a little more tricky such as trying to find a single, tiny cuff-link on board a huge ship or getting a long combination code to a Matryoshka Doll safe (Russian nesting doll). (Luckily for me when I got my copy many, many years ago from a car boot sale the person had printed out hints and a pretty thorough walk through and left it in there for the next person. Very handy for when I got stuck.) The control scheme is extremely simple with just the arrow keys and mouse which need no explanation. You have an inventory bag for when you need to use items or read over notes that have been collected. Adventure out of Time also nicely added in a mode that lets your tour the ship without having to worry about the story so you can just sit back, relax and wander round and enjoy those nostalgic views of 90's video game architecture. The biggest thing for me though in this game is it's beautiful soundtrack which can give off that vibe of being stuck in a classy ship with an uneasy feeling knowing the ship is doomed. Erik Holt did an amazing job and the song "2nd Class - F Deck" will always give me nightmares. Every time I heard it I just wanted to rush out of the area because it is so damn chilling! I recommend checking out this soundtrack on YouTube if you love haunting music. If you've played this before then you'll remember everything. If you're a fan of puzzle games or want to check out some games from the evolving times of the 1990's then definitely give this one a go. The animations of the real life characters and the movement can sometimes be a little clunky but it's easy to overcome and you'll be lost in it's charm in no time. 10/10 (If you want to see what it's like here's a playthrough I did of it several years ago.. No I'm sorry but I cannot play the game as it is, graphic wise.. Don't get me wrong, Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time is actually one of my most favorite Titanic games. But the Steam and GOG version of this game is complete garbage. When you startup the game, nothing seems to be wrong with it at the first sight. But when you get more into the game (either in the Story mode or Tour mode), you'll notice that the dialogue of the characters often ends before the finish their sentences. Also when you move forward or turn right, the resolution doesn't re-adjust. It only re-adjusts, if you turn left. These two issues might annoy some people (like me) but they aren't as bad as the following issues. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are three major Issues, this version of the game has : 1) When you are on the Boat-deck level of the Grand Staircase and try to exit it by going through the doors on both sides of the room, you are instead spawned on the A-deck Promenade. The only way to spawn on the Boat-deck is via the Gymnasium door. 2) During Tour mode, when you enter the A-deck corridor, a message pops up and says that it came to a Scripting Error. You can't continue moving through the A-deck corridor because of the error, but you can turn around, and get back to the Grand Staircase. 3) This version of the game RANDOMLY CRASHES ! And i know that this shouldn't happen. I've been playing the downloaded DOSBOX emulated version of the game for many years and IT NEVER CRASHED for me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want the game to work properly, DON'T BUY THIS VERSION and instead download the DOSBOX version from the internet.. its back its good. 14th April 1912. You are a secret british agent on a very crucial mission onboard the Titanic. You get briefed on your mission, but while trying to solve it, you become engaged in a political plot that, if not stopped, will bring all out war between the great powers of Europe. However, while working to prevent this, the Titanic hits the iceberg and starts to sink. Time, is now running out. Fast. Good luck. For those who like puzzle solving and exploring, this may be a game for you. The graphics are fairly dated, but the game is still good to play. The soundtrack is the best. It always have you on edge as you try to complete your mission, and sometimes you are tasked with, while it may seem like minor annoyances, these tasks will prove valuable in solving your problems. Give this game a go.. Anyone else having a pixel problem with the game, I really love this game but the pixels are annoying.. Glad to see it on Steam, finally gave me the chance to play it. I am sad that it doesnt have a resolution setting to adjust in the game, it's only showing in the middle of the screen.
