Fun, charming and overall a pretty good experience!. Not a Metroidvania. Has elements, but just stage based with power ups that require you to replay stages. More puzzle platformer. Game has blind instant death jumps, and then also combines this with an autoscroller. Cannot possibly recommend.. It's really good. Having the jump attack and the dash be the exact same button combination is a terrible design choice. Also some bosses have zero hints to their movement so prepare to get cheap shotted. This felt like it could have been good but its these flaws and the warning from people here about a reallyauto-scroller car section that just made me to decide to cut out while I still could.. I don't know why people are calling this a Metroidvania, it isn't. It's closer to a weird Mega Man / Donkey Kong Country hybrid, but less fun than that sounds. The controls are not clean and don't feel great, strike one in a primarily platforming game with instant-kill spikes everywhere. There's a lot of issues with actually making the game run smoothly for a lot of people, I managed to get it going after several restarts and trying different options out after 10 or so minutes. The upgrades are OK and typical enough for a Metroidvania but the level design, gameplay, world selection, etc. all speak to it being more of a typical platformer, with Metroid style movement upgrades which largely amount to unlocking 1 secret in a past level and letting you progress in the current one. There's no excuse for the car level. It's just objectively bad and again, reflective of a platformer game design in the middle of something that just isn't quite in one place or the other. I don't know how air horns blasting at you every 5 seconds (sometimes faster) as you retry over and over got through any kind of "fun" test. I had to mute the game to get through that section. If you've played Axiom Verge, Hollow Knight, Ghost 1.0, Shadow Complex, all the Donkey Kong Country games, all the 2D Super Mario games, actual Metroid games, Castlevania: Symphony of the Knight, Mega Man collection, and a few others I'm forgetting right now and you still want more, then OK, this might scratch some of that itch, or at least make you eager to go back to one of the good ones. Otherwise, skip it, even on sale. I would refund it halfway through if I could.. You play as a cute bunni :3. This is certainly a fun game, if you are looking for a game in the metroidvania style you should enjoy this one. While I enjoyed the game it has it's share of problems.First there are frequent slowdowns, which shouldn't happen with a 2d game running on a modern computer. Second the difficulty curve could use some tuning, it goes from fairly easy to much harder by the last level, it's a rather abrupt change.. Loved the gameplay and secret hunting. I wish there were more levels. Great game! I hope you make more.. It's a decent Metroidvania, just little bit too linear in level design as the story progress, you go from one stage to next stage but can backtrack to previous stages to hunt down inaccessible areas / items. The controls were little bit stiff. The story have alot of charm and humor is pretty good, likable characters and such.. I would definitely consider this a solid and enjoyable metroidvania, though at the same time it's not amazing and not one I'm likely to remember that much or come back to in the future. The structure is less of a big open world and more smaller, maze-like levels with lots of secrets tucket away. It does scratch that metroidvania itch in a few levels but there are also several really linear and flat levels as well. Oh, and the car level is just pure trash. Complete waste of a level slot when there's only a total of 9 levels to begin with. The combat is pretty good though, there's a lot of subweapons I never used but Jonathan feels good to control and has a lot of different melee attack options - basic attacks, a mid-air spin attack, when you get the double-jump it also functions as an attack (and a reall effective one), slide is an attack and you can even slide in midair (which the game never tells you and is also required for a few of the hidden treasures, ok, bleh). The bosses for the most part (aside from the bonus level boss and the secret boss) are really easy and pattenered though. You might die once or twice but after you see their pattern there's not much that can touch you. Especially if you go back and replay levels to collect treasures you missed or couldn't get the first time. The platforming too, it's solid. The game reserves the really tricky platforming stuff for the bonus level but there's still moments of interesting stuff happening in the rest of the levels. Jonathan has maybe a bit slow of a ground speed but other than that he's pretty mobile and the game gives you lots of movement options to play around with. I never found any of the platforming really that hard though, even the stuff with instakills, the combat is clearly where more of the challenge is intended to go. Presentation-wise I'm not a huge fan of the art style but it looks fine enough in general. The music on the other hand is actually really dang good - personal favorite would be the song for the nile level but there's a lot of good stuff there. The plot's a bit cliche and predictable but it's serviceable enough & kept me interested so, ehh? Overall this is like. A fun game and a reasonable amount of content for the price too, but I wouldn't ever see myself calling it one of my favorite games of all time, it doesn't really strongly have an identity, just does what it does well enough to remain pretty enjoyable throughout (except the car level. screw that noise.)
