About This Game

Hello, my name is SUSAN. and I am the host of CHEAP GOLF. Here are some things you should know about this game:

good work SUSAN.. If you enjoyed Pony Island you might enjoy this game, but probably not as much.. PROS:
+ Really fun and simplistic but challenging gameplay
+ Really charming and interesting story given the minimalistic style
+ Content is well worth the price
+ Progression! The game introduces new mechanics over time to keep levels from feeling stale
+ SUSAN let me in on a little secret... no telling!

CONS:
- Controls feel a bit unpredictable sometimes
- Music can be a bit painful, it would be nice to have an option to adjust music/sound seperately
- Score is a little buggy

Verdict:
Cheap Golf is well worth the small price the develop-- ahem, SUSAN, is offering it for. It's a hybrid between a mini-golf/puzzle/reflex game, so I'd recommend you are in to at least one of these genres, but I think most people would enjoy playing this. It's challenging but fair, and a lot of fun. 8/10

EDIT:
In response to the developer, certain levels would have par scores of 0 (despite the actual level displaying something different). Certain levels also didn't properly calculate turns (I don't remember the exact name, but there was one with bumpers I did with one shot multiple times and it always said it took me two hits).. I'm not sure what I expected.. This strips Golf down to its most basic - drag and drop the putter to hit the ball. Avoid obstacles, gather keys. In general the levels are pretty easy (although I was frustrated with level 49 qwest for a long time), with the power of the putt hard to measure. There's also a weird story about a rogue AI infused between the levels. It's just weird, but in a good way. If you want golf as retro as you can get, this will keep you entertained for an hour or so.. I came for the Cheap Golf, I stayed for the technological singularity. Really fun game, the mechanics of flinging the boop are solid, and the levels are challenging. The aesthetic is great too, atari-esque retro feel complete with old CRT scanlines.

Also, SUSAN.. This game does what it advertises, nothing more, nothing less. Although it is comparable to Pony Island for its "meta" humor, Cheap Golf never strays far off the tracks. What I mean is that the gameplay and the "structure" of the game never shifts in unexpected ways. It is very much straightforward from start to finish: a golf level restricted to a single screen, then a short dialog with SUSAN, then another golf level, etc. I was a bit underwhelmed while playing, so I advise people not to set their expectations too high like I did.

Despite all that, I'm still giving Cheap Golf a light recommendation. It is a good golf game for sure. To me the best attribute this game has is the level design. there's only a few gameplay elements, but they are used in clever ways so that every level feels distinct and interesting. The humor is also fun enough; It got a few chuckles out of me and is never embarrassingly bad.

All in all, it's fun but don't expect more than what you're seeing in the screenshots.. This game is by far one of the best games i've ever played. The music in this game fits extrodinarily well with the gameplay and makes me want to play it more. the graphics crazy good. I can tell just by looking at it how much time and dedication the developers put into this game. The physics of the game honestly i have no idea how they made. The collision detection is insane and i have no idea how my computer can handle how much stuff is going on in it. Now for the best part, THE STORY. To be honest i didn't expect this game to have a story at all, but oh was I wrong. I don't want to spoil anything since that would be bad, but I have to say it made me cry. It reminded me alot of my struggles getting diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The main character I could relate with so much and it felt like they put me in the game. I never expected such an extrodinary game to exist, but it does. I DEFINITELY recommend buying this game. The amount of sweat and tears that must have gone into this game is unimaginable.. Probably among the most realistic and accurate golf simulators currently on the market.

. Quick update - level balancing & upcoming tweaks:
Hello all,

Today we uploaded a quick adjustment to the difficulty of a few levels in the game (specifically WAT and QWEST), in an attempt to smooth out the difficulty spikes. The spikes are intentional and part of the story, but some levels are still a bit too spiky and can tend to be more frustrating than challenging.

We would rather people see the end of Episode 1 than rage quit, so if there are any levels that drive you nuts, give us feedback in the forums!

Coming very soon:

- Some smaller sets of levels to keep you occupied and entertained while we work on the bigger episodes, each with their own leaderboard.

- Drastic improvements to the editor UI, and new incentives to make and share your own levels :)

Hello All,

We just released Episode 2! It should be in your current version of the game (1.0.3). We also made the following updates:

- Camera zooms out a little smoother
- Episode 1 levels got a few changes (mostly difficulty tweaks)
- Slight improvements to the editor, but it still has a ways to go
- Slo-mo threshold was reduced, so you should see it more (slo-mo is enabled when you fling a ball while it's still moving)

We also added 2 new leaderboards (for Ep. 1 + 2) and one new achievement.

We also promise it will not take a whole extra year for Episode 3 (and full release) to arrive. We are well underway on that - current estimation is about 2-3 months.
