In the far future water is the most valuable substance. Two space pirates are captured, sold to a princess, and recruited to help her find her father who disappeared when he found information dangerous to the rulers. A real Space Opera with sword fights, explosions, fighting robots, monsters, bar fights and time warps.
Throw together a tv star, a football player, an actor's daughter, a singer's daughter, and assorted hangers-on. Add in a script that is pure recycled hokum, something that would be a pastiche but couldn't spell it. Set it in space and stand back. Way back.

I saw this movie years ago in the theatre and still laugh watching it. This movie could have maybe been the start of another Police Academy or Police Squad series. Yep, it's that dumb. On purpose. Too bad it wasn't good enough.

This is a movie for SF fans, the way Galaxy Quest is, just not as well made. It pokes fun at the foolish cliches. It is a great fun 'renter' of a film, so long as you don't expect much. If you get a warm feeling from this film, and it's all the hot air leaking out of Sci-Fi's most cherished idiocies. Favourite game: Try to name the film(s) being parodied at any given point in Ice Pirates.

I recommend this film to anyone who likes bad movies or has seen too much Hollywoof Sci-Fi. I saw this movie in '84 and if you asked me about it a year ago I would have said I loved it. Corny good time movie and the actors just went with it. Seemed they had fun and I did too.

For Nostalgia's sake I got a copy of this movie a couple months ago and watched it. This time it seemed a lot more corny than it should have been, but I still enjoyed it. Had I written this review before watching it again I would have given it a 8. Today, it really isn't that good and it only deserves a 5 but nostalgia earned it another point.

Come to think of it, I watched Star Wars: a New Hope and Empire Strikes Back again a couple months ago and only gave it a 5. The theater called it The Force Awakens but they couldn't fool me.
