A group of men parachute into Japanese-occupied Burma with a dangerous and important mission: to locate and blow up a radar station. They accomplish this well enough, but when they try to rendezvous at an old air-strip to be taken back to their base, they find Japanese waiting for them, and they must make a long, difficult walk back through enemy-occupied jungle.
A platoon of special ops are tasked to parachute into the remote Burmese jungle and destroy a strategic Japanese radar station, but getting out isn't as easy.
I have not seen this movie, but I have learned that Mr. Augustus Bastien fell approx. 50 ft. from some scaffolding during the production of this movie, and was killed (1894-1944). I am sure I will see the film eventually, but wanted others to know, just FYI. This site requires ten lines for comment, but since I haven t seen the picture, I can only comment on Mr. Bastien. He is buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, in Los Angeles, which, really, is a historical landmark. Some of our country's most famous entertainers are entombed there, like Cecille B. DeMille, Nelson Eddy, Rudolph Valentine, etc. It was after seeing an HBO special about this place that I learned of Mr. Bastien, the poor guy. I wonder what he was thinking that day. Being sixty years old, in 1944, he was probably leading the staff during the production of the movie, and felt he had to teach the younger ones on how to do the job right, and lost his balance......who knows...anyway, thank you for letting me comment on this production.
Two platoons are sent to Burma to destroy a Japanese radar station. After the successful accomplishment of the mission, the soldiers have many troubles to return to their base. This action war movie is very above the average in the genre, and is important to highlight that it was filmed before the end of the Second World War. Based on this information, we can understand the use of too much heroism in many scenes. Indeed today sounds very funny the exclamation of the journalist to Captain Nelson (Errol Flynn):`-Damn clever these Americans !' The movie is a little long, but will not disappoint. My vote is eight.
