In the business of life and death, trust and loyalty are definitely two lines that shouldn't be crossed. In this action packed anime, Monica Rial and Shelley Black loan their voices as the roles of Mireille and Kirika, two maidens of death who have nothing in common except one thing: they're both emotionless killing machines. Mireille Bouquet is one of France's most revered killers who will wack anybody for the right price. Up until now, Mireille hasn't had a reason to care or a reason to depend on anybody but herself. All of that changes though when a beautiful young Japanese girl shows up asking Mireille for help in finding her identity, as it turns out that Kirika is an amnesicac with no memory but has the skills of a very dangerous woman. Mireille agrees to help Kirika, as she feels that Kirika may hold they key to unlocking a mystery to Mireille's own past. The two set up shot in Paris and begin two work as a hit squad code-named Noir and their journeys take them to the chilly land of Moscow to the beautiful land of Sicily. As the girls take down their targets and get some serious bigtime pay, they draw closer to the truth behind Kirika's sudden amnesia and the truth behind Mireille's banishment from her home in Corsica years ago as a child. However, a dangerous organization called the Soldats doesn't want the girls uncovering the truth about anything and even goes as far as to send one of their own, a young girl named Chloe to silence them. Now the men and women of Soldats who swore a mysterious oath to watch Kirika and Mireille's back are now eager to put a bullet in them. The two girls will have to learn the difference betweeen being a target and being a shooter as the Soldats start closing in and Mireille decides that it's time to go gunning for revenge. In the end, the girls will learn the difference between trust and loyalty as they enter a dark world where watching each other's back is the only way to stay alive.
I was really disappointed with this anime because I really like action stuff and of course when there's assassins involved, it pretty is badass but unfortunately this wasn't one of them. I thought the girls were too alike in personality like both of them were too girly girly and that their delivery was rather bad. I mean if youre going to make a better anime series, you would need to at least give each characters different personalities regardless of gender! Even their bad guy kicking moves didn't blow me away, it was just tasteless and its like been there, done that kind of way.
I'm not really a fan of this even if it tried hard enough to enlighten me instead of wasting my time! 2/10 I give this! If you are reading this, you already know what the anime is about. I like the characters of the anime. The female characters are not depicted as sexualized or dehumanized objects of fanservice, but instead are depicted as strong, heroic protagonists who can weather any assault that comes their way - whether it be Islamic-type terrorists, Il Ittociable and her mafia guys, the Taiwanese Triads, or the Soldats foot soldiers. This is in stark contrast to (and, in fact, a far cry from) the dime-a-dozen fanservice animes like "No Game, No Life", where the female characters are put in humiliating and dehumanizing situations to suit the protagonists' needs. In "Noir", there is none of this fanservice garbage. None whatsoever, and this is a very positive thing for anyone who is either new to anime or for an anime fan who is looking for something that is good. I have to place myself among those who are trying to avoid fanservice like the plague, and this anime is a good place to start if you want to avoid the clichéd moe-type anime. The action, although not as balls-to-the-wall as "Black Lagoon", is nonetheless sufficient to carry the story along. Some of the ingenious ways in which Mireille and Kirika kill some of the bad guys are incredible - those two women can kill anyone with anything! Chloe is also brutally efficient in offing her opponents. When it comes to the end, though, the final confrontation with Altena seems like a little bit of a cop-out (thus preventing me from giving this anime a full 10/10 score, unfortunately). Still, this is a highly respectable show. If you want to get away from the "No Game, No Life" and other fanservice-type garbage, remember that Noir is only a heartbeat away!
