Natural Sleep Enhancers - Do They Come in All Shapes and Sizes?

The signature of REM, however, is rapid NutriSleepRx Review eye movement. While this is happening, dreaming is taking place and the memories from the day are being consolidated. Studies have shown that depriving a person of REM sleep greatly decreases their cognitive ability for both learning and memorization. Getting too few hours of sleep can also impair cognitive ability. To function correctly the brain must go through the entire sleep cycle multiple times during the night. The recommended sleep time for this is eight hours. Sleeping less than seven hours each night or more than eight hours can negatively affect your health. Sleep disorders come in all shapes and sizes. To realize how many there truly are, you must note the definition of "disorder", a physical condition in which there is a disturbance in normal functioning. So if you have a cough and can't sleep very well for a few nights, this is technically a sleep disorder.

Adjustment Sleep Disorder- It is very likely that you have experienced this disorder; you just didn't know it at the time. This is the loss of sleep that occurs from temporary stress due to change. This can be caused by factors such as starting a new job, moving to a new place or losing a friend. This disorder is transient because it will go away eventually when the person adjusts to the new situation they are in. Environmental Sleep Disorder- This disorder is normally a self-inflicted problem. It is when a person has bad habits when it comes to bedtime, making it difficult for them to fall asleep. These bad habits can include doing stressful activities right before bed, sleeping too much during the day, and sleeping in a room that is too light or too loud. Ditching these habits and getting better ones will make this disorder go away. Also, winding down before bed and making your bedroom a peaceful place, are just a couple good habits to get into.
Sleep-Onset Association Disorder- This disorder is seen most in children, but some adults have it too. It is when certain cues are needed to induce sleep. For children, these cues can be a pacifier, background noise, a parent in the room, or a certain stuffed animal. With adults, these cues tend to be smaller things like a certain number of pillows or having the fan on.

Jet-Lag Syndrome- Yes, this is an actual disorder. If you aren't aware, jet lag is when a person crosses multiple time zones quickly, interfering with their circadian clock. You are only capable of adjusting this clock by one or two hours each day, so it can take awhile to get used to a new time zone if it is far away from your own. The strange thing about this is the experience of being very tired one moment and suddenly waking up the next. This is due to your biological clock thinking it is morning time, even if it is not. It is estimated that one third of all people suffer from insomnia. That is a lot of people. So if sleep is such a natural thing, why are so many people having trouble getting enough? The truth is there are too many possible causes to name, but there are three major categories that insomnia causes fall under. Although insomnia itself is considered a sleep disorder, it is often caused by other underlying disorders. One of the most serious of these is sleep apnea. A person suffering from sleep apnea will temporarily stop breathing multiple times during the night, then gasp for air, which will wake them up or at least bring them back to light sleep. This can happen hundreds of times during the night without the person even being aware.

The only signs are sometimes daytime fatigue and a bed partner telling you that you snore. This is important to get treated because it can become a huge risk if you stop breathing for too long. Other insomnia causing sleep disorders include Sleep State Misperception, Altitude Insomnia and Toxin-Induced Sleep Disorder. If you have physical health issues, these can often interfere with your sleep patterns. In these cases, the medical disorder should be treated rather than the actual insomnia. A good example of this is alcoholism. Insomnia and alcoholism are a very bad combination because they feed off of each other. Many alcoholics with insomnia will have a drink before bed to help them fall asleep. While this works for a couple hours, the effect will wear off once the alcohol starts to metabolize. This will result in the person waking up and being unable to fall back asleep, or transitioning to very light fitful sleep. This will worsen the insomnia, which can cause the person to drink again the next night just to be able to fall asleep.
