Rose Cooper is an uptight and by-the-book cop whose name has become synonymous with screw-ups. She's given a chance to redeem herself one day when she is assigned to protect a federal witness, Daniella Riva, the vivacious and outgoing widow of a drug boss. As the two polar opposites race through Texas, they find themselves pursued by everyone from crooked cops to murderous gunmen. However, their greatest obstacle to making this out alive may be themselves as they learn that Cooper has now been considered a fugitive fleeing with Daniella.
Not Cute. Not Funny. Not well acted. Not well directed. Not well written. The editing is done poorly. The cinematography is sitcom quality.
It really is a chore just to watch this horrible thing. Sophia Vergara has a body made for porn, and everything else in this movie is porno quality. except there is no gratification of any kind at the end of this tepid mess.
The thing that really gets me about a disaster like this, is that no one put ANY effort into it at all. None. They had money and a cast, and decided to rob the public, instead of even trying to make an interesting movie.
I'm surprised Adam Sandler wasn't in it, And shocked Reese Witherspoon is. If she told me she was that hard up, I would have just given her $13. Rose Cooper (Reese Witherspoon) grew up in the back of her father's cop car. She works in the evidence room in San Antonio and belittled by her fellow officers for over-reacting in an infamous 'shotgun' incident. She's obsessive and hopeless in love. Captain Emmett assigns her to accompany US Deputy Marshall Jackson to escort cartel lieutenant Felipe Riva and his wife Daniella (Sofía Vergara) in a case against cartel boss Vicente Cortez. Two sets of gunmen attack killing Jackson and Felipe. Cooper escapes with Daniella.
Witherspoon is doing her Tracy Flick except this character is selectively clueless. Vergara is doing her Modern Family character except she is even more shrill here. They are both going over the top and combine to form an annoying couple. It's too much to begin with and Witherspoon goes hyper after getting coked up. Normally, an odd couple requires a straight man in the partnership. I can't tell which one is suppose to be the straight man in this. There are mildly amusing aspects to this movie. Vergara's age and Witherspoon's height are both fodder for fun. Witherspoon has moments when I almost like her. However, it's all overwhelmed by the overly crazy actions in one silly scene after another. I can’t believe just how dumb Hot Pursuit is. Moreover I can’t believe just how much I laughed.
