Beyond Eden is a visual novel set in the Victorian era, centering on the themes of "love-hate" and "revenge."
The player enters the shoes of Alex Wake, a young businessman who returns to a Baron’s mansion where he stayed as a boy. Bearing a deep grudge against the Baron and his family, Alex seeks to manipulate them and their employees in order to lead the family down the path of destruction.

I really liked this game.
My first playthrough was sort of "what would I do if it were me" so I somehow ended up with a route that had no sex at all. And I loved it, wasn't disappointed at all. I got to understand the characters and see a side of the story and really feel for them.
Overall, it has every dark theme everyone here mentions: dubcon, noncon, child abuse, suicide, murder and everything in between. But I'm sure an adult mind can appreciate the story - its strength lies in seeing how Alex (the main character) thinks and reasons. It's the sick and twisted mind of an adult who was traumatized as a child and has felt nothing but anger and guilt for the past 12 years. He's plagued by it to the point that he's not able to sleep without using medicine and he's got sucidal tendencies. Yes, it's not nice but you get some insight into the human mind and by the end of all routes you can't not start feeling like you understand where he's coming from or at least feel really sorry for him.

My favorite route is that of his best friend who goes out of his way to make him let go and show him that it's time to live his own life. It's lovely because Alex is a broken man and his friend is there to start mending the cracks in his soul.

Anyway, there's one non sexual route and 5 sexual (3 intial and 2 unlockable). Two guys are bottom only, one is top only and two are versatile depending on your choice.
Game is partially voiced (in Korean) and this is by far one of its best features. The voices are amazing. They're not whiney or screechy or effeminate, they're just perfect. Alex's laugh is worth the price of the game alone.. THIS REVIEW WILL ONLY BE HELPFUL IF YOU LIKE KOREAN VOICE ACTORS FROM CHERITZ GAMES AND/OR BLs:

Essentially, if you want to hear these VAs in more mature, adult scenarios and enjoy or don't mind BL, GET THIS GAME. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

So outside of the VA fangirling, the plot is pretty interesting as you can garner from the summary and from other reviews so I won't divulge here. And although there isn't MUCH romance, there is great character development in some of the routes not only for the MC/Alex but for the other characters as well. It's honestly one of those games where I ended up not really playing for the sexual content (although...no complaints :x huhuuu), but I actually wanted to read on and see what the heck some of the characters were thinking/planning/going to do next.

also let me just say, based on some of the reviews, i was fearing the ends/routes were going to be soul crushingly awful but they are NO WHERE as bad as I thought. Yes, there's non-con smexy time and one route in particular was a bit hard to read through (my poor Yuri ;_;) but none seriously questioned my sanity or in humanity that made me want to mind bleach the hell out of my memories (cough DMMD COUGH CHOKE COUGH Hadaka ♥♥♥♥♥uji ugh).

My only issues would be:

Kind of short for a $30+ game and doesn't have full voice acting (even though I went back and chose every single dialogue choice available (because I really wanted to see the different character reactions, worth it!), got every ending, procured every CG and it all took less than 18 hours).
Wish they offered subtitles in both the original Korean alongside English
The only other issue I had was that some of the endings...didn't feel like endings. Felt like I read the penultimate chapter and the book just ends! I really craved for an epilogue or something with more closure, but maybe they can add DLCs? If so...THAT'D BE PERFECTION.

But seriously, this game would be one of my BL favs, potentially rivalling Luckydog, NYT, coming out on top and lowkey DMMD orz So if you like BLs with a bit of intrigue, complex characters, and don't mind not having a lovey dovey romance but still just as satisfying character interactions, get the game or at least test out the demo :]. I'm neither a fan of most BL visual novels nor dark and unhealthy relationships in stories, so I went into this game expecting the usual stereotypes, and Beyond Eden blew me out of the water. I'm glad I took a chance on this game despite my wariness - it may be my favorite VN of the last 10 years.

Fundamentally, Beyond Eden isn't really a romance VN. Its main focus is on telling a good story about flawed-but-sympathetic people with complex relationships, and while romance can occur (in spite of the protagonist's best efforts) it's incidental to the primary themes of revenge and redemption. Structurally, the full story is uncovered bit by bit through each of the six characters' routes; each has a unique plotline focusing on the protagonist's specific grudge against that character a la Count of Monte Cristo, and a different theme at its center - forgiveness, freedom, trust, etc.

Characterization (and the writing) is the highlight of this game. Every character - from the responsibility-burdened eldest son to the affectionate family doctor to even the vengeful protagonist - is realistically portrayed, with understandable motivations and weaknesses. Their interactions with each other are a joy to watch, whether the scene is humorous or dramatic, and you honestly want to root for them through everything. And while dubious consent and outright nonconsent does play a significant role, it's always acknowledged as what it is and used to drive the narrative; I never felt that it was gratuitous, out-of-character, or excused as romantic.

There are still some areas that could've been improved on - for one, even the happy endings are very open-ended about how exactly the plot would resolve - but in general the writing is highly competent and engaging, and the translator did a great job of capturing the Victorian period setting in description and dialogue. The editor less so, as there are still numerous typos and misstatements in the game script, but the devs are very responsive and actively fixing them (which is a big point in their favor). Aesthetically the game is well-designed as well; the art and music skillfully set the tone of the game and give life to the characters, and the artwork is appealing while being tasteful, including explicit CGs.

In the end, although I've played this game for way longer than how long it actually takes to finish, I keep coming back and finding new nuances I didn't notice the first times around. Beyond Eden really is a gem, and I'm looking forward to any other releases by this studio.. Beyond Eden is basically a gay anime version of Emily Brontë's book Wuthering Heights, though this game is certainly less boring. 10/10 would be a viscious blackmailing bastard set out to destroy everything and everyone he knows all for the sake of revenge again.. A complex and intriguing story, beautiful sprite/CG art, and real erotic heat mostly make up for weak background art and (especially) an awful translation. Studio Pieplus: please, please, please have a native English speaker edit your next translation! It's not just that the language is stilted; there are places where the translator wrote literally the opposite of the meaning of the original line. You're asking too much for this game to offer something so unprofessional in this respect.. This is my first time writing a review and I absolutely have to say something on this, mainly because many comments made me think weather I should buy this VN or not. I am still not completely done with the VN, but so far I have to say that it's money well spent! I think this game, although a bit dark-ish, is very beautiful in it's own way. I honestly don't see the protagonist as the villan and I don't dislike him at all. I can understand his perspective and I can understand and feel for the other characters as well. There are many VN with villan protagonists who are doing bad things just for the sake of doing them, no meaning or reason behind them, and it bothered me a bit when some people in the comments compared this one to those kind of games (I played them all). This is nothing like that. This is about a emotionally troubled and pretty disturbed man who couldn't let go of things that happened in the past. He is very wrong for doing things in the way that he is doing them, often ignoring any voice of reason, but he is NOT doing that because he is simply "evil". There were so many scenes where Alex shows emotion and I really felt for him. I don't like what he's doing, but I kind of kept hoping that he will turn it around (the feeling that I don't get with pure evil protagonists). I felt for all of the characters, and sometimes I just screamed inside "can't we all just get along and play nice!" I applaude to the creators for bringing this to life.
The only con that I would have would be the voice of William.. It gets kind of boring, BUT has no effect to the overall experience of the game.

For people reading this: I won't write any "trigger warnings" and things like that, it's just stupid, what are you doing here after reading the plot summary if you still need some kind of a warning. More importantly, how did you end up in a BL part of the planet if ra.p.ey FICTIONAL things freak you out?
I highly recommend! Studio Pieplus - I <3 U. I don't write reviews often so I'm kinda of a newbie, but this needed one!

I bought this game earlier today and all I have done is complete Jeremy's endings but I had to say something otherwise I'll find a reason not to, this game is incredible! The writing is smart, the characters are all enjoyable in their own way except for one certain, hateful ♥♥♥♥♥ (I think it was a shame that Edward didn't have his own ending but I'm sure if I play more then it'll become more evident why) and Alex Wake himself is one hell of a lead!
I have to give special kudos here to the music composer and the singer, the music composed is always top knotch in my opinion and there was such a variety, I would occassionally stop playing the game just to listen to it, I noticed you can buy the soundtrack so I think I will when I get my next paycheck. Also the singer has such a voice and range that I actually saved before Jeremys good end just to listen to that ending song a few more times.
Like I have said, I have only done Jeremy's route -at first I was worried cosidering this game does have sex in it but then read that the game doesn't include sexual depiction of minors (or women) so I was curious how this could play out and played this route first- and at first I was wondering if Jeremy would change Alex's mind and heart away from revenge since he reminds him of his sister which is something I picked up before the reveal but considering the game and time it is set I shouldn't have been so optimistic, and those endings! That bad ending felt like an arrow to my chest. Honestly, I was waiting for that gun to come back into play and when it did I admit to smiling like a madwoman, not from happiness though, I think I just became Alex for a second there haha But seriously, I had to reload immediately after the credits and choose to grab Jeremys hand instead.

I will admit, I had to turn off a few of the voices since I had my own image of how they spoke but there was more voices that I kept on from how pleasant they sounded and how they just became the character. The art in this game is beautiful, especially the garden CG, that was especially sweet~ I also enjoyed interactive mode, it felt like it had added to the story in my mind, you could have just as easily written these in but having such a small new mode was interesting and felt,well, interactive~
I likely have more to say but I literally have just finished getting both endings for Jeremy and am feeling a little high on the image of Jeremy holding onto Alex's arm, I don't even know how to describe that relationship except maybe an uncle and a nephew but even putting it in those plain terms doesn't feel too right.
I love revenge stories so this was bread and butter, if you like them too then I do recommend buying this~
Also, Studio Pieplus, thank you for making this game, it was an experience that I can't wait to continue with the other characters~ And if there's an Eddy DLC in the future then I'll buy it That's a half joke~. The story is about a man, Alex Wake, who lives only for revenge. But, as he encounters each of the 6 romantic interests, he discovers that his revenge is pretty much baseless.
At first, he is...mean, really mean. He r*pes and blackmail some characters, that way the game makes you understand that Alex lost his mind, and it's up to you to make him go to the right path again. I'm not saying r*pe and blackmail are good things. This were the things I didn't like in this game. I just appreciate the fact that Alex can have a chance to be someone trustworthy again, since he pretty much lost it.
The art is great, the music and the voice acting too.
I saw that the youngest son, Jeremy, had a route. I was afraid that Alex would have a romantic relationship with him, but I'm relieved to say that this is not the case. I woudn't have bought it that way. In my opinion, Jeremy's first ending is the most satisfaying, and the cutest.
As for the price... I wouldn't know, since I brought this game during a sale!
Last, but not least... Please. PLEASE. PLEASE!! Give Edward a full route. He deserves it. He's cute! I think Alex and Edward could help each other to become better people.. I can't sing the praises of this BL visual novel highly enough! This is the first visual novel I have actually ever played and oh boy, has it set my standards high!
Beyond Eden is such an absorbing and addicting experience. When I first started playing I found myself almost instantly fixated and couldn't stop playing for many hours.
The character dialogue and the intricacies in the characters personalities is all so diverse and well written. I really felt like I had made a connection/bonded with the characters after learning about their personalities, history and what makes them tick.
So far I have completed Joshua's romantic ending, and it has made me one very happy fudanshi.
(I only wish that there was an Edward route)
