It's a fun game but it has a stupid ing barrier you have to cross in order to continue playing it. All I want to do is play the campaign, but instead I first have to reach level 5 in PvP, which takes about 3 minutes to find a match. It's just a tedious process that serves no actual purpose but to keep you playing more. you Astral Heroes devs. Get rid of the level 5 pvp requirement.. I have played over 500 hours of this free to play game. The game is a two player collectable card game where you play a series of games against others or AI. In my view it counters the three major problems with magic the gathering. 1. Lands - Instead of suffering at the hands of luck and getting too many or too little lands, in Astral Heroes your power level starts at 1 and goes up by one each round. 2. Bad cards that you can't use - In Astral heroes you get to throw out and replce a card each turn as a free action. 3. Slow games - Magic the Gathering takes me 10-15 minutes to play a game. I can play three games of Astral heroes in that time.. I played a lot before it was available on Steam. Loved: - graphics and calm ambient which is still meaningful and not boring, but allows you to focus on the tactics, not fireworks and jingles every single step. - it's challenging to compose a competitive deck and you never become a boss - it keeps challenging on every stage of the game. - you don't need to manage zillions of cards at once and then wait for the lucky expected composition during the combat. If the deck is correctly constructed, cards work synergically in many ways and you can go on well regardless to luck - there is really lot of different cards and compositions you can mix them with success. There is no useless, better or worse cards, every card is somehow important and can win the combat, if right used. - doing the balance must have taken years of testing - respect, guys. - There are three types of play, custom deck, random deck and draft tournament. - it's free to play and it is not begging for money all the time long. If you don't have a premium account, you still can enjoy all the features and still have chances big enough to win. -AI is really smart. It has no mercy, takes every opportunity and uses every break in your defense. Sometimes I even prefer playing with AI, because it does not do stupid moves and makes moves immediately. Hated: - when you loose it can be sooo frustrating i deinstalled the game few times in fury :) - After long time play you start to know decks and possible card combinations very well. Especially bot's decks and moves become so predictible, you can guess nearly every move. - When you get paired with much higher level than you - it's obvious you gonna loose - such matches shoudn't be possible (but so you can learn new strategies). - Sometimes your current limitations won't allow you to construct desired deck, and meanwhile you're constantly being beaten by someone who could effort more (but it makes you think more and try to find alternative ways). After all - the game can make you really mad, but it gives it a character of a good oldschool, non-forgiving games and I would say i like that. It's a very cool alternative when you're looking for a card game different than popular polite, shiny ones that contain more special effects than sense.. I want to leave positive feedback on this game. The new player experience is excellent in my opinion. My reasons are: Excellent Campaign Mode: It is both fun and explains the game mechanics well, and has a good mix between repeating cards and introducing you to new cards. Guilds: The guild system is great. It provides common goals and incentives, and I have found that other guild members help and guide a new player like me and offer advice. Draft: Drafting is accessible early on. As a new player, I don't expect to perform well in draft at first, but that is not important for now. What is important is that the crystal price for Draft Tournaments seems fair and accessible, which means that I will be able to draft and gain experience. I am happy that my opponents, who might have a large collection, are restricted to a limited pool of cards like me. I can gain knowledge and experience in Draft by observing which strategies of my opponents are most successful, and this will help me in future drafts. Random Decks: This is an excellent feature for new players, who can feel on a much more even playing field with these pre-constructed random decks. Music and Atmosphere: The music is very soothing, and the old-school high fantasy setting is nostalgic. I usually turn off music in games I play, but not in this case (at least not yet). Open Beta: Open Beta closed in October 2016. This means that it's an excellent time for new players to come to a game. So, well done to the devs for creating this game.. Fun card game so far, even though it has some flaws. I'm 19-4 in the custom deck league right now (fighting against players up to level 10 as level 5) and while there is quite a bit of strategizing involved, it's pretty apparent that there are a bunch of imbalanced cards. Can you imagine that one of the cards removes target enemy (or ally?) monster and every monster on the battleground with lower spellpower/mana cost than theirs? It might not sound too OP if you compare it to Twisting Nether/DOOM from HS, but it only costs 6 spellpower for a death alignment card here when you can use multiple of them in a deck and death alignment decks have a lot of spellpower increasing cards. In my opinion there are just too many cards with too high value when you can have multiple in a deck, don't have deathrattle units, most units have around 15 health and you don't run out of cards. Here some examples: Death cards: Banshee 5/19 - 4 spellpower - ability cost 0 - destroy an ally creature and deal 5 damage to all enemy creatures. Cursed Soul 5/16 - 4 spellpower - ability cost 1 - transform adjacent minions to 5/16 cursed souls Lich 5/15 - 5 spellpower - when you summon lich, deal 5 damage to the opponent and all enemy creatures. Void Bolt - 2 spellpower - deal 4 damage to an enemy creature for each empty slot on your side of the board. basically a one hit kill againt most monsters for a low cost, especially in spellpower gain-oriented decks. Greater Demon 8/40 - 8 spellpower - 0 cost ability that deals 8 dmg to one adjacent creature and 8 dmg to all enemy creatures. For that much damage it should cost a little bit even if it requires a lot of spellpower. Spiritual Plague - 6 spellpower - destroy a creature as well as other creatures with lower spellpower cost than the target creature. 6 spellpower is basically midgame only and it shouldn't be enough to reset everything. Order cards: Sword Master 4/12 - 4 spellpower - immediately attacks twice after summoning. Questionable because it can be placed on any board slot, there aren't many health point giving cards and you only have about 30 hp. Pair some of these with low cost boost cards (goblin chieftain, unholy monument, demonic rage), extra attack cards (gryphon, elven hero, elven bard, hasten) or spellpower increasing cards and you have a pretty high chance of killing the opponent before they have 6 monsters on the board. I like the game , but I hope for a bit more balance and closer games.. pay-to-win - When you play there is no information about the rules of getting new card, guild, gold, cristal. - I see the only way to get new cards is pay with gold (real money), 200 cristals (wtf). you get 5 per win. You can get by wins, but each time you need more wins. so. it could be 1 card for 20 wins latter. - They say you get a free card per day after first win, I didnt for 3 days! - He said "5 of TOP-10 players paid nothing", well, as far as I know they could be testers of the game, who knows the system that is not explined. -If rules are other way, then rules are not said, so it is the same. I have been played more time, 20 hours. It is funy, cards are balanced, but they are not much and to grow new cards need more and more time. PAY-TO-WIN (so you can play, and LOSE FOR FREE; not at the beggining, but you will see later). Updated: 26th/10/2016. I stop playing so.. A fantastic tactical card game and it's free. Challenging enough to be frustrating at times but it's rewarding and loads of fun.. Astral heroes is classic , easy to learn but with a high potential skill cap It's a short download and does not have any monetary scheme attached , just a nice diversion if you enjoy a game with deck-building tactics but not as robust or competetive as something like Hearthstone Well i played a million hours of this back before it was on steam , back when my pc couldnt handle the metagame so FYI Destiny 2 is free to download and keep until Nov.
