This should be priority number one, especially since three separate meals will most likely originate from your kitchen, and if you do not have healthy choices contained within, how will it be possible for you to make a difference in your health and nutrition?

Often people who say they want to lose weight forget the fact that contained within the majority of kitchens are numerous foods and snacks that are not considered healthy and balanced. Take a moment and go browse your cupboard shelves, refrigerator contents, pantry, and any place else where you have food stored. Make a list of all the "unhealthy" options you find. Did you find items such as chips, soda, cookies, cupcakes, ice cream, donuts, pies, cakes, and crackers? These types of items are especially dangerous since many people enjoy snacking on them while at home watching tv or when reading a book. This is the worst kind of snacking since our mind is preoccupied with another task thus allowing our hand and mouth to go into an automatic mode. Before you know it the whole bag, box, or container is empty leaving you wondering where did it all go. That's the number one reason why getting rid of these types of snacks from your kitchen is imperative so these situations do not occur on a regular basis. When you are not able to munch on a whole box of crackers or devour a whole bag of potato chips, then you are halfway there.

Instead of these types of foods lining your shelves and cupboards, get options that are considered healthy and low in calories. Fruit can be easy to put in a bowl on your kitchen counter and are fantastic for the body. Apples, bananas, pears, peaches, plums, oranges, nectarines, can all be added to your fruit container on a regular basis when available at your local market. Carrots, celery sticks, raisins, grapes, almonds, strawberries, flavored rice cakes, granola bars, and yogurt are also great snacks to have on hand when you need something to munch on in between meals. This way even if you do start snacking while watching a movie or reading a book, at least the snacks you will be putting in your mouth will not be terribly detrimental to your goal of losing weight. Combining some of the snacks can also be another way to change it up yet keep it healthy. Grape nuts cereal mixed in with yogurt tastes great! So does raisins with almonds. Be creative and see what combinations appeal to you and your taste buds. Remember, taking complete control of everything that goes in your kitchen is crucial to maintain healthy, nutritious eating throughout the day. Experiment with different food choices and find things that you really enjoy. After awhile, you'll see that you really don't need all those potato chips and buckets of ice cream.
