Neck Braces, Rigid Collars, Cervical Orthoses - A Guide on Bracing The C-Spine - Part 1

The following information will be talking about soft cervical Patroxidan Review  collars, rigid cervical collars, CTOs (cervical thoracic orthoses, both prefabricated and custom) and Halos. All of this information will not be included in this article alone. This is a part of a greater series of articles on cervical bracing. Many medical professionals think of soft collars as braces patients wear for "comfort". They do provide support to the cervical spine, but this is considered to be to a lesser degree than a rigid collar, CTO or Halo, for example. When someone has a fracture of some kind in their cervical spine, it is best to stay away from a soft collar. It is more appropriate to get the patient into a support that is more rigid, such as a rigid collar, CTO or Halo. Why As stated earlier, these braces provide support, but they are considered also be a reminder for patients not to make a movement in the wrong direction. When the diagnosis is serious, you want movement to be stopped on purpose, you do not want a casual reminder. There is a difference.

Lastly, it is important to note that many people will wean into a soft collar, from a more rigid cervical brace. This is not always the case, however. The idea here is that after a person has healed sufficiently, from a more serious injury or surgical procedure, they then can move into a less supportive orthosis because they do not need as much of a brace to control their cervical spine.

Soft collars usually have a spongy type of consistency, thus the name. Usually, they have almost what you could consider to be a "bounce" to them. You will notice this when you compress the collar and let go. Most of the time there is a Velcro closure that will attach in the back. They are also typically beige in color. On occasion, people will look at a collar and think that since it has padding, it is "soft". This is not necessarily the case. As we will talk about in later sections, other collars will having padding as well, but basically any neck brace a patient ever wears will be "soft" on the inside. The difference is found in the construct that is placed that joins the padding.

This is part of a greater series of articles on cervical bracing. This is also considered to be health information.
