Now that's a respectable mod! It really doesn't fall below the quality level of the original Portal, and assuming that you already own the title, it's free! So, if you enjoyed Portal there's no reason to ignore this one! The Good: Well, Portal was rather short, and among the many mods the game has (which I haven't really tried as of now) there's this truly good one which brings you another 19 brand new levels. It has a rather similar setting and concept to those of Portal, with new puzzles. This mod centers mainly on puzzles which involves pellets, and it adds some new rules and little adjustments to the old "rules" we were used to from Portal. Nothing serious, and you'll be quickly introduced and filled in, and enjoy this nice mod. It shows some very innovative and original puzzles, where you'll have to think and squeeze you're brain to proceed. The creator of the mod also created original soundtrack for it, which is quite cool and fits well, and is even slightly better than the original Portal soundtrack in my opinion. Still here? Just try it, would you? The Bad (?): Well, if anyone's reached here. There's actually nothing wrong with Rexaura, only thing that I didn't like much is the story, which is, and games of this type, is rather minor and can easily be ignored. Rexaura shows a different story than Portal's but it tries to catch with its spirit. There are some nice lines, but mostly I felt like it's a somewhat cheesy imitation to the original story. Didn't like the ending at all, too, BUT, this is nothing too bad, really. And surely not a reason to avoid playing this. Enjoying this mod is actually a matter of your own personal taste, as I said earlier, this mod concentrates on pellets-related puzzles. Which is not bad, but not anyone would like it. I did get a bit tired of it towards the end of the game, and while playing the bonus levels (which were great nonetheless!) , and the more portals-related puzzles were missing. But then again, the puzzles are done very well and are totally worth the time! The Ugly: I think there's only one technical problem with the game, I didn't try to investigate it too much and it might just be my computer, but, at some point the game would randomly just crush into a black screen, where I'm actually forced to restart the computer as there's no other way to snap out of it! This does not happen with any other game, nor with the original Portal. Pretty sure it's something to do with the handling of the saves files, as this issue seemed to occur more and more often as I progressed through the game and added more and more save files. When I tried to delete a couple of saves, the issue didn't occur much.. Anything you want from portal but more challenging.. i may had a hard time with some of the puzzles but still a great mod!. Mod: Rexaura For the game: Portal Developer and publisher: Benjamin "Mevious" Bryant Released: 11 December, 2014 Genre: First-Person Puzzler with Comedy Setting: Between 2003 and 2010, Aperture Science Enrichment Center, Upper Michigan, U.S.A., Earth Canon status: Non-canon Spoiler-free plot summary: After a section of the mysterious science facility was destroyed and had all power reserves shut down, GLaDOS awakes and tasks you, an unnamed female test subject, with completing several test chambers designed to restore power to different parts of the facility. Full review: Rexaura is a mod roughly the same length as Portal, but also far more difficult, and can thus can take longer to solve several test chambers (I needed help from Mevious's video walkthroughs for the last few chambers). Like other Portal mods, Rexaura's main game mechanic (or gimmick, if you prefer) is based on expanding a mechanic seen in the original Portal game. In this case, it's manipulating High Energy Pellets and directing them through the test chambers, into their respective "catcher", and activating other parts of the test chamber which will lead to your eventual continuation into the next test chamber. Similar to Portal, Rexaura also includes two advanced maps and four bonus maps. However, these require being unlocked by finding secrets in the campaign. Also similar Portal, Rexaura has very little plot. When there is any plot development, it is in the form of dialogue with GLaDOS, which is as equally comically dark as the dialogue in Portal 2 (my review of which can be be read here ). A short, simple review for a short, simple mod. Do I recommend Rexaura? Yes, but only if you're pretty brainy at solving tests in the Portal games and their mods. Rexaura isn't as difficult as, say, Portal: Prelude [www.portalprelude.com] , but it comes pretty close.. i dont remember this that much seeing as i played this back in 14 and completely forgot about it but you should take the chance i mean it is free after all. Rexaura is a mediocre Portal mod that is extremely repetitive, lifeless, and brings nothing interesting to the table. There's just no freedom or any kind of creativity to moving around the levels, not to mention the puzzles themselves focus WAY too much on the same gimmick and setup, making each and every chamber a bore and tedious to complete. In addition the characters that you interact with all throughout are just lifeless cutouts of Glados, and they're way too mean-spirited. Not to say that Glados wasn't mean too, but these characters aren't even clever about it, and they try so, so hard to make a joke that it's truly cringe-worthy. "All of this waiting is making me want to kill something." - Where is the joke in that? Making a character blatantly talk about wanting to kill something is not comedy, let alone any form of clever writing. Rexaura is also built off of Portal 1 instead of Portal 2, which means it lacks the improved controls + better physics and plays clunkier than most other mods. You won't be missing anything if you decide to skip out on this. Aside from a pathetic cube holster that's supposed to redirect energy pellets and pointless purple energy podiums that get in the way of energy pellets and are placed in obnoxious quantity everywhere (both of which can very easily be replicated with angled panels anyway), this game does not have any unique qualities to bring.
