The player base is tiny and shrinking and new players will never be given the means to catch up. Don't bother. Few hours here, but probably a couple thousand via a browser. Its NOT P2P or P2W. Energy is almost completely irrelevant, as it regenerates quickly and there are plenty of things to do that don't cost energy. You can get 7 free packs by doing the "advanced tutorials" - through a lightbulb on the bottom left of the campaign screen. With just these packs, you can easily compete in beginner arena (which is vs AI - there are also two arenas where it is live PvP matchups) New Devs are GANZ (makers of Webkinz) who seem dedicated to the ongoing improvement of this product. I have several alt accounts that have spend NO MONEY at all in this game and were able to complete the campaign and compete at Epic guild level. You get PLENTY of free premium currency through login bonuses, achievements and arena quests. You do not need to pay for the premium currency. Still, a small purchase will speed your advancement and is a nice thank you to the developers if you like their game.. Let me start off by saying that, in my opinion, this is the BEST ccg out there. As you can tell by my hours logged in, I obviously love it. A lot of time has actually been played via my browser too so I probably have close to an additional 400hrs. With all that aside, this isn't your typical Pay to win model. You can purchase ANY card in this game without having to pay real money. Is there a grind? Yes. I'd be lying if I said there wasn't. However, you can earn gold rather quickly through several ways. One way is the campaign. They now did away with the energy bar so you can play as much of the campaign as you'd like. Once you defeat the campaign, the energy bar is implemented if you want to replay any of the "Nodes". Another way to earn gold is through Guild Wars. You can gain gold if you win your certain matches then bonus gold if your guild wins that war. It can build up quickly. Also, there are daily rewards for logging (Which can also reward you with cards, or gems). You can also purchase any hero for Gold. There are currently 27 heroes, 6 or 7 of which you earn through completing the campaign. You can also gain gems through playing in the arena. 2 per day and a bonus of a minimum of 20 at the end of the war if you play something like 20 PvP matches. On top of that, if you log in 20 times during the month, you're awarded an addiitonal 20 gems. My favorite part of the game is the variety. There are 6 Kingdoms along with a 7th neutral kingdom if you will (Unaligned). There are heroes for each, with their own special abilities which gain charges each turn. Each hero truly feels different and all have their own benefits to play to a certain playstyle and deck build. There are numerous types of cards to play: Creatures, Gear such as weapons and armor/shields, Spells, Runes (Which take effect each turn and benefits or hurts each side). Like I said, a lot of variety. It should also be noted that creatures also have abilities. And there are A LOT of abilities. However, with all of this being said, the learning curve is very short. There is a lot you can do but its easy to learn but difficult to master type of thing. I can also say that the player base is overall very friendly and helpful. Someone is always around in the chat to offer guidance and advice with new players. There are also 4 tiers for Guild Wars, which is pretty easy to find someone to take you in to "Show you the ropes) =) Update* Just purchased my 2nd Legendary card in the past 3 months. Both with gold earned from Guild Wars and the Arena. Also during that time, I purchased 2 boxes (20 packs) worth 149 gems each without having to pay a dime of my real money.. Used to love playing this game, but it's pretty much pay to win.. If you like this kind of game, its system is solid enough and there's enough free content that it's worth signing up and trying out. That said, there are many glaring flaws . The interface is wonky. Card abilities are often explained poorly, or not at all (why don't the cards that make an enemy "Weak" tell me what that means?). Each hero has several abilities, but the game refuses to tell you what they do until they're ready to use. In the tutorials, you can only read the details of the cards that you've been ordered to play next. There's an energy system, and I haven't played long enough to know how much it gets in the way, but there are areas in the campaign that require you to wait two real world hours to activate again and those are VERY annoying. (edit: I got a card that boosts all "Light Alliance" creatures, but I didn't seem to have any L.A. creatures. turns out that L.A. refers to three "good guy" factions, which they could have just easily written out on the card.. Well after many hours I'm finally done with this game. I wanted to keep playing. It has all the wonderful aspects of an addictive CCG. Opening packs, nice card art, interesting gameplay. What is it that finally killed the game for me? Arena Trolls. After you complete the campaign (which isn't finished BTW), there is only guild wars and Arena play left. Guild wars is just 45 quick matches over the course of 36hrs so there isn't enough there to keep an avid player going. So what's left? The Arena. Even if you only play the lowest level which is called "Limited". Even if you have mastered tactics and gameplay. You WILL lose more than you win. Why? Because the Arena is rampant with players who have put together the perfect decks. Either by grinding in game currency to buy singles OR they spent real money on the game. Good for them. I'm happy for them, I really am. At the same time, I'm tired of players who are no better than I am, winning everytime because they are bringing unbeatable decks to the Arena. I have 30K wins overall in the game (mostly in Guild Wars) so I know how to play. These players are still unbeatable because of the decks they bring to the lowest of 3 levels of Arena. Anyway, unless you have unbelievable patients, you don't care if you lose all the time OR you are ready to spend a lot of money.stay well clear of this game. This is the ultimate example of pay to win.. Here's another free TCG that I wanted to love. In fact I was felling pretty excited for the first few minutes. But there's something generic about it, and it felt pay to win.. Quite a fun game. The three creature setup is good. The Story mode is a tad easy, but still quite fun. Winning PVP matches feels very rewarding.. It's good, and bad, and just a ccg? Play it, or don't, it's free. . . . . To start off with.. It looks like fun but I can't login.
