Wealthy Ranjit Rai would like his only son Ajay to marry Madhu the daughter of equally wealthy Harbans Lall. But Ajay falls in love with Kajal and Madhu falls in love with a mechanic Raja. When the two rich men learn that there children have chosen poor spouses they deceive them by getting them to sign a document which states that Madhu is legally married to Ajay. Things does not go into there favor and they decided to hatch a plan to prove that Raja and Kajal is having an illegitimate relationship thus making the way clear for Ajay and Madhu to get marry.
Harbans Rai and Ranjit Rai are two wealthy businessmen who absolutely *loathe* poverty and poor people . As fate would have it , Harbans Rai's daughter Madhu falls for a poor mechanic Raja while Ranjit Rai's son Ajay romances a poor girl Kajal . When Harbans and Ranjit come to know of it they try various ways to separate the lovers .
I have watched this movie to the point where I have memorized it and am still enjoying it, which is surprising given how I feel about comedies. This is a Romance film, comedy film, a film about true friendship and family. In this one case, trust friends over family. Trust love and heart over bonds of birth.

Ishq is the story of 2 sets of friends Ajay (Ajay Devgan) and Raja (Aamir Khan) as well as Kajal (Kajol) and Madhu (Juhi Chawla). Ajay and Madhu are rich, whereas Kajal and Raja are poor. To complicate matters Ajay and Madhu's fathers hate poor people. They play dirty tricks to break the couples up and get Ajay and Madhu married.

The acting is heartwarming, it is rare to see a film with so many big names in it where egos do not come into play. Aamir and Juhi provide most of the comedy, with Ajay showing that he does have comic talent. Kajol, however, keeps the movie from devolving and the plot on track.

Great watch! Ranjit Rai (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) and Harbans Lal (Dalip Tahil) are two wealthy business magnates who despise the poor. Thus, they decide their children, Ajay Rai (Ajay Devgan) and Madhu Lal (Juhi Chawla), will marry wealthy spouses. They try to break their children's friendship with Raja (Aamir Khan) and Kajol (Kajol), who are both poor. They fix up Ajay's marriage with Madhu and send Ajay to meet Madhu. As fate would have it, Ajay falls in love with Kajol instead and Raja and Madhu fall in love. This angers the two men, and they try to bribe Raja and Kajol into leaving Madhu and Ajay. When this doesn't work, they try to get Raja and Kajol killed. When the children realize what their fathers really did, they refuse to back down, their determination set in stone.
