If you are like most athletes, both30x30 Total Transformationprofessional and amateur, you have a constant need to improve your game. We all know that at a certain time in our lives, Mother Nature takes over and we can no longer be the same athlete that we once were, but in the meantime, we can continue to train to defy gravity. One way that you can do this is to increase vertical with exercises.

You may have been taught that you were born with your vertical leap, and if you are one of those flat-footed people who were never meant to dunk or rebound, then you had to just settle with that. However, certain workout routines amplify your vertical that are meant to retrain your muscles.

One exercise that many athletes do to increase their vertical height is hopping. By taking one large step and hopping with your knee up, then switching legs (much like a skip), you will learn to get that spring in your calves that you need in order to get more height. It may look silly and you may not feel like you are actually doing anything, but you are retraining your muscle fibers to act in a fast-twitch mode.

Another way to enhance your jump is to run stairs. Pick your favorite high school stadium and start running them, first once at a time, then two, and then three (if you can). The faster you can do it, with spring in your step, the stronger your legs will become. If you get winded, you can stop, since this is not an aerobic exercise. This is meant to strengthen your legs, not your lungs!

Finally, squats are a great way to increase the strength in your legs, but remember that if you do too much of them or lift too much weight, your legs will be trained to move slowly, not quickly. So, stick with quicker squats at a lighter weight to ensure that you don't get too bulky in the lower part of your body.

Your vertical leap will always be higher if you are lifting less weight, and that generally means that you need to reduce your BMI. By losing even a few pounds of fat, you should see an immediate difference in the heights to which you can jump. In fact, this is the easiest way for anyone to add inches to their vertical jump!
