While you're trying to kick a bad habit, it's a Subliminal Guru Review good idea to avoid temptation as best you can. If you're trying to stop smoking, then don't hang out with smokers, or don't hang out outside bars and restaurants. If you're trying to stop eating fast food, then stop taking the route home from work that's littered with McDonalds and Taco Bell. Along the same lines, it's a good idea to throw yourself into environments that encourage the new habit. Try and make friends who already have this habit and find spaces where the healthy habits are discouraged and the unhealthy habits are not permitted or enabled.

When starting out, it's a good idea to be strict and religious about the change. It's a lot easier to stop smoking altogether for a month than it is to smoke only once a week for a month. It's doubly helpful if you can create a very strong pattern around your behavior. Try and introduce the new positive habit into your life at the same time, under the same conditions, every single day until it's habit. The more conditions around the habit and its introduction into your life that you can control the better.

Don't go overboard creating systems for yourself to adhere to a new habit or to cut out an old habit. As a general rule, simpler is better. The more components there are to something, the more things that can go wrong. For instance, if you're looking to get into the exercise habit, then it's a good idea to introduce one type of simple exercise than to create some ridiculous and convoluted regimen to adhere to. While it's a lot more exciting to create a complex, precisely planned regimen with all sorts of breaks and changes and variety into it, you're far more likely to fail at that then if you resolved to just go out and run for a mile a day every day.

We all have some sort of bad habit. Most of us have multiple bad habits. Even people who are generally successful at life have their share of bad habits. In fact, even people without habits we would generally consider bad want to improve what they do, and consider their good habits not quite good enough. Bad habits, or at the very least unsatisfactory habits, are in all of us. Thankfully, it's almost as simple to get rid of a bad habit as it is to develop one.
