The year is 2039. World wars have destroyed everything and territories are run by corporations, the mightiest -- and cruelest -- of which is Tekken. Jin Kazama (John Foo) witnesses the death of his mother Jun (Tomita) by Tekken in the slums known as Anvil. Vowing vengeance, and armed only with his street smarts and raw fighting skills, he enters a dangerous and potentially deadly combat tournament, where he must defeat the world's most elite fighters to become the "King of the Iron Fist."

Alright, first things first, I'm a huge Tekken Fan and I've been playing the games since Tekken 2, but this doesn't mean I'll just judge this movie blindly and purely based on the video game series. But! Let me just get some of the issues off my chest which I encountered while watching the movie, mainly it's the character background and character relations which ticked me off a bit, examples being Anna and Nina Williams being rivals in-game, while in the movie they don't seem to mind sharing a partner together for under the sheets, if you catch my drift - Another thing is Christie, while they surely got the looks right (aside from the Brazilian background) they made her completely unrelated to Eddie (actually Eddy!) they even replaced her fighting style. Last example were the Jacks, I sparkled with excitement for a bit when I heard the 'Jacks' were coming, instead of giant muscular robots however, I found average-looking goonies with guns.

Altho, certain characters did match, I especially found Brian Fury and Eddy Gordo quite matching to the game versions, both in looks and fighting moves, which was good. Miguel on the other hand (I forgot how he's called in the movie) didn't leave much of an impression.

Now to get to the actual movie, if I look at it while removing all the game references, it's a pretty decent movie with plenty of action, and a decent soundtrack. I'll leave the in-depth story for the other reviewers so I'll just note a few general things. The movie was fast-paced, overall enjoyable to watch, the main character is motivated to fight, while sadly this is found lacking with the other tekken fighters. It also had it's share of teasing/fan-service in the form of naughty scenes, which are pretty common in every action film these days.

To give my final judgment about Tekken, to get back at the title/summary, I think it's a Tekken movie for non-Tekken fans, because due to all the lore-bending they've done to the original storyline, there's not much left for the Tekken fans to relate to, except the names and some character looks. Literally every character in the movie has a contradiction with the game, and since non-Tekken fans won't notice these, I feel it's more appropriate for them to watch the movie instead of the regular Tekken fan-base, as the fans will mostly scratch their heads and watch the movie with a big frown on their faces.

Well, that's about it for my first review, hope you enjoyed the read! When I was a child there was 3 video games that to this day will always go down in history as my favorite games ever made. One of those games happened to be Tekken. When I first heard about this movie I was pretty psyched. To be honest, I didn't really know what to expect. To say the least I wasn't "Butt Hurt" but I wasn't happy either. From the perspective of somebody who has never played the games before, this would in fact be a good film. However, from the perspective of somebody who has played the games... I found myself saying "omg what are you guys doing this isn't how that happened" almost every 5 minutes in this film. I guess I now know how those guys who say "The book was better" feel. A lot of the Tekken characters in this movie where completely out of character compared to the character they portray in the gaming world. Like I said though, I can see how someone who has never played the console games could enjoy this movie. Aside from all that, the content of the film as story progress wise was forced. The action is what made up for that downside. With all that being said as a loyal Tekken fan. I either hope A. They make an anime movie out of Tekken that sticks true to the roots or B. Does this movie some justice in a Hollywood remake. They're going to need to take a completely different approach if they want to attract the interests of the hardcore fans.

By 2039, much of the world has been destroyed by World Wars and civilization is on the brink. What's left are territories that are no longer run by governments, but by corporations, the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses subdued and entertained, Tekken sponsors an annual Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters from across the globe compete to the death for ultimate glory and a lifetime guarantee of wealth and fame. Jin Kazama is a street fighter who enters the tournament to avenge the death of his mother which he blames on Tekken's powerful chairman, Heihachi Mishama. The only way for him to get close enough to Mishama is if he wins the tournament, but he soon discovers that he needs more than just street fighting experiences to get him through the bloodbath. With the help of Lucas, an aging Iron Fist Champion and trainer, Jin makes his way through the levels of the tournament. In doing so, he also begins to uncover hidden bits of his own past, full of his own inner demons, as well as a revelation about the dark underbelly of Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity. Tekken is based on an arcade game series of the same name by Namco Corp, a Japanese video game developer and publisher. The game series was adapted for the movie by screenwriters Michael Colleary, Alan B McElroy, and Mike Werb. No. Yes, he will carry the Devil Gene. However, it's rather realistic adaptation so there's no transformations. Some characters borrow very strongly from real life people, e.g., Marshall Law is based on Bruce Lee. Lei Wulong is based on Jackie Chan, Raven is based on Wesley Snipes, and Craig Marduk is based on Nathan Jones.
