More than 50 well-known experts from China and abroad, including the US, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Israel, gathered in Chongming district recently at the 2018 Shanghai Chongming Eco-Island International Forum, sharing their ideas and suggestions on how to build Chongming into a "world-class eco-island," according to a report by Touch Shanghai. To get more Chongming District, you can visit shine news official website.

Shanghai Chongming Eco-Island International Forum has been held once every two years in Chongming district since 2006. According to Shanghai Observer, as Chongming develops, the themes and keywords of the forum have been extending on the basis of green and ecology.

For instance, the 2010 forum focused on low carbon and following years highlighted green economy and sustainable development. This year's forum stressed building Chongming into a world-class eco-island in a "high-quality" way.

Besides keynote speeches, the forum set up two sub-forums which shed light on advanced ecosystem building and the development of urban modern agriculture. A meeting among county leaders invited more than 10 Chinese and overseas entrepreneurs and experts to talk about rural revitalization.

Moreover, five other themed forums focusing on Chongming's ecological civilization building and green industry development will also be held soon. Major topics like the development of green transportation, a health industry and a cultural industry will be included.

The 2018 forum aims to build up a platform of international communication and cooperation so as to bring international vision and global wisdom to the district's world-class eco-island building cause in a new era.Located in northernmost Shanghai, Chongming district is comprised of three alluvial islands at the mouth of the Yangtze River, namely Chongming Island, Hengsha Island and Changxing Island. The main part of the district, Chongming Island, is the world's largest estuarine alluvial island, according to an introduction on the official website of Chongming district.

Thanks to such geological conditions, the district boasts a sound ecological environment and rich resources. More importantly, Chongming values such advantages and has been making great efforts to better promote its ecological environment together with economic and social development in a sustainable way.

In December 2016, authorities announced a five-year master plan to build Chongming into a world-class eco-island. In March of 2017, Shanghai announced it would promote the building of Chongming into a world-class eco-island "with the strength of the whole city."

In June of 2018, the municipal government approved the Chongming District Plan & Land Use Plan (2017-35), which is a blueprint for achieving this goal.
