About This Software

Black Ink is a new, non-realistic GPU based painting application that, instead of imitating traditional tools, brings new inspirations to every artist.

Forget about pen and paper or watercolor and discover a new, generative and truly computer based way to create. Black Ink’s non realistic tools makes creating original pictures fast and easy, whether you’re an experimented artist or never used a painting program before.

Why Beta?

"In order to achieve this we chose to put Black Ink in the hands of the users as soon as possible to gather feedback, adapt our development to their needs and also help us finance the project while staying independent."

Approximately how long will this game be in Beta?

"Black Ink will stay in Beta as long as we feel something too important is missing.
This is an iterative development and no fixed date is set but we hope we can call it complete within the next three years."

How is the full version planned to differ from the Beta version?

"Every feature in the full version will appear during the Beta process as we develop them.
We are planning on adding more options to brush creation and even a way to mix them together, more drawing tools like symmetry and cloning, better management of layer number, and other improvements asked by the community. We also aim at releasing on OSX.

What is the current state of the Beta version?

"Black Ink is fully functional and each update is tested and stable. The ongoing development is all about adding features.

"Black Ink’s price will raise as it becomes more complete and attain a full version value once it leaves beta version.

We will announce major price-changing updates in advance so everyone can get a chance to get it cheaper."

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

We closely monitor our community activity for feedback, bug reports, feature suggestions and of course drawings! That’s how we keep Black Ink stable and usable.

Each feature development is evaluated according to what our users are asking and we are of course happy to publish the best drawings on our network.

We also have an ‘Alpha’ program that users can sign up to. This version is a work in progress of the next release, it contains the features we are working on and testers can help us make them as complete as possible and stabilize the release. a09c17d780

the program is not bad, drawing on it and editing brushes and such is pretty easy in my oppinion
but it doesnt let me save the image for some reason, i though it was cause i had different layers on so i merged them all together but that wasnt it, speaking of layers, if you have a blending mode on a layer then merge it, the blending mode either dissapears or carries on to the layer you're merging it with

so i dont think i'll recomend, you can just get something like artweaver or MyPaint for free. Exatly what I was looking for a long time and a great price,I got it on sale!!!!!

Since I have drawn since I was a little kid on paper I always looked at threse epic si fi pictures drawn on PC with envy and did not know how to get in to it, well I finally found what I was looking for. Also great tutorials on u tube I found if very intuative and pretty easy to learn.. I collect paint programmes as a hobby just as much as I love drawing. I have been collecting them for many many years. Black Ink may not seem too new to me because of that, but it is a beautiful programme to have in my collection. It has a fantastic streamline UI and everything runs very smoothly. Works perfect with my pen pressure of my CTH-470 and supports the eraser function on the pen too.

The only downside is, from first opening, the brushes seem quite limited. However, you can play with the settings and change that on your own. Many paint programmes also come with communities who create their own brush packs, so keep an eye out for any generous, creative folks...

EDIT: A while ago, I went snooping the forums for Black Ink and discovered a wide range of fan made brushes for importing into the program, much like how most paint programmes do this now. You can still make things on your own in programme, but the community is bursting with fantastic creativity and it's very generous for sharing it. I am very happy to find this, and it opens so many new options!. coolest graphic software ever used, kind of annoying when you can't add more than 8 layers though.. Absolute beast of a software, I love it.
I was skeptical to buy this at first because of all the negative reviews about crashes etc, but I've only ever experienced one crash during my near 50 hours of use.
I'm not a very talented artist but even I am able to create some sick stuff in this program, I definitely recommend it. No complaints. (Except for the 8 layer limitation, but that's rarely a problem). I have to say, I wasn't sure how I'd like this program, but I've been playing around with it... the documentation is currently sparse and I haven't figured out everything... but I LOVE this program. It has been working really smoothly, and I'm enjoying learning how it works.

I judge it a good buy, especially on sale as it is. It's great already, I think it'll be what I generally use, unless a specialty function in another program is needed...

Update: One minor thing (since I suspect it'll be added to later) is a limit on layers. I found I hit a hard limit, and this was a bit of a pain for me. I still think it's worth it, and suspect they'll add more layer capabilities soon.. great program, really is a completely diffirent feel then any other software. It ha endless comsumisation, and is overall really fun to mess around with. the price is a bit steep but the program is great.. Amazing software with the ability to program your own brushes!. At first I thought this software was a piece of...junk, so I haven't touched it in a while. However after using Clip studio paint, and other art software I then tried to compare those with this piece of junk. After a couple weeks later I just love this junk. I can't stop using this junk, after rubbing my tablet for a while, the junk turns my rubbing into beautiful white pictures that gives me joy and happiness. I can no longer hate this junk and its just so easy to use. It's so simple but it gives me so much pleasure. I love this junk.
