When a US plane is taken down over seas by an unknown assailant, the army is sure it was North Korea and a new war is about to break out. Even worse, the true attacker is an alien armed force and only one old battleship can stop them.
A stunned silence fell over me as the credits mercifully rolled. I actually watched that crap, I did it, I committed myself to seeing it through despite the urge to douse my self in gasoline and self immolate. If you actually make it all the way through this steaming river of sewage you deserve a medal for movie watching valor. I can't express enough through words alone just how breathtakingly, mind numbingly, horrifyingly awful this movie is. No one must be allowed to see this. It's too late for me but others will be spared a slow agonizing death only if this film is sealed in a titanium vault and dropped into the Marianas Trench. It isn't the childish production value, it isn't the laughable inaccuracies or the plot holes large enough to suck light and matter out of the room, it isn't the community theater acting, it isn't even the use of the wrong battleship for filming, it's the fact that this movie doesn't know it sucks. It actually thinks it's a decent movie. It says to you hey dig me I'm an awesome, edgy, action flick based on a legendary battleship (USS Iowa)and you're just going to love me. What it doesn't tell you until it's too late is yeah I forgot to tell you I'm using washed up hacks in a poorly thought out script and pretty much just throwing in whatever costumes and I can afford along with special effects some 12 year old created on his Mac. Oh and I was also filmed in my neighbor's pool. It isn't a movie. It's a war crime. Those responsible must be brought to justice.
"American Warships (2012) Written and directed by Thunder Levin. It was released straight to DVD, The similarities to "Battleship"(2012) are beyond coincidence. The movie was to originally have been called, American Battleship, but Lawsuits ensued.

Mario Van Peebles plays the intrepid Captain assigned to a Mothballed Battleship, the USS Iowa. Spoilers Ahead. If you saw Battleship you will find the same ground being covered. Maybe a little bit more clever here.

N.Korea backed by China, are set up, to look like the bad guys, when in truth, the instigators are, "not of this earth". Their technology in warfare,however, seems just a shade advanced of what we could come up with. Hence. we could defeat them.

Much of the show is devoted to shots of the vintage warship, And then there was the unlikely romance between the Captain and the Lt. played by Johanna Watts. I liked the idea that the new technology weapons of the aliens, could only disable the integrated circuitry but not harm our older technologies.We would be vulnerable indeed if our computers and electronics get fried. There were very few other points of interest. Logic is hard to come by, first thought, get a hostage, instead of gunning them down. As pointed out by others the CGI is amateurish. The aliens look cute, like something out of Monsters Inc. If you stick with this one, you get what you expect, lots of stock footage too. Three out of Ten poorly paced Stars.
