associated with otitis media and hypertension. When a person has high blood pressure, blood flow inside the blood vessels becomes restricted. This can be because of fatty deposits lining the walls of the arteries, thus causing the arteries to become narrow. Blood flow then becomes noisy, causing tinnitus. When tinnitus is regarded as a symptom of Meniere's syndrome, a disease condition affecting the inner ear, the ringing sound can be accompanied by dizziness and subsequent hearing loss. People with long-term tinnitus and hearing loss can experience musical hallucinations. There are also certain drugs that trigger these musical hallucinations, like aspirin for instance. Tinnitus will usually stop once you stop taking the medication. More often than not, stress triggers these musical hallucinations.

Tinnitus relief is highly subjective, since a person's experience with tinnitus may be different from another's. That is why although there is no sure treatment or cure for tinnitus, at least there is a variety of ways to help relieve it. One of these is aromatherapy, which is helpful for blood circulation. There are blood circulation problems, such as hypertension for instance, that can cause tinnitus. Aromatherapy experts identified rose, cypress, rosemary, and lemon essential oils as soothing relief for people experiencing tinnitus due to circulation problems.

There are also alternative therapies that can be used to manage tinnitus, like acupuncture, hypnosis, and cranio-sacral therapy, among others. These holistic healing techniques have not yet been technically proven by science, but some people often get relief from tinnitus by employing these techniques. Studies have also shown that several herbs can actually help relieve tinnitus. One of them is the ginkgo biloba leaf extract, which is effective not only for tinnitus but for a wide range of health problems as well, such as depression, anxiety, headache, and memory problems. Other herbs recommended for relief of tinnitus include black cohosh and hawthorn, the latter specifically acting as a tonic for the circulatory system.

Relaxation therapies have also been highly used in providing relief for tinnitus, since meditation, massage, biofeedback, and even yoga have been shown to ease tinnitus. In massage therapy, pressure is best applied on the head, neck, and chest area to provide maximum relief. One of the easiest and most popular ways to relieve tinnitus is through sound therapy, which makes use of relaxing audios to mask the sound of tinnitus. Some of the sounds one can listen to include wind, sea, rainfall, and other nature sounds, whatever is deemed relaxing and soothing by the individual listening to it.
