We were talking about mentors the other day and the first one to pop into my mind was Uncle Walter. Nearly every person I talk to about my Uncle Walter had one in their lives also... maybe he had a different name but someone who influenced their whole attitude about life. Well, mine was my birthday-mate; both of us being born on the 25th of August. My Uncle Walter. My Uncle Henry. Oh, God where would I be without them both.
You see, my daddy died when I was 10 yrs old. Mother kept us together but it was hard finding work, and someone to be with me when or if she had to work at night. Mostly she waitressed, sometimes took in ironing, sewed, whatever she could find that was decent. She finally got her nursing license and that really helped financially, though her feet hurt so badly because she was still on concrete all day long. I always remember her feet and back hurting her but she rarely complained. Now, with my own back pain, I can imagine her pain.
