Every now and then we catch wind of a specific food shortage. Combat Fighter Review This past year the shortage was pumpkins. It appears that last years crop which was intended to become this year's canned product. Due to the damaging weather experienced last year there was a shortage this year of the canned pumpkin. This merely goes to show that you never know what or when food will be in short demand. Being a survivalist I try to keep a steady supply of various canned and dehydrated food available for disasters and emergencies. I would like to suggest a few hints that may help set your food storage program in motion before our shortage becomes terminal.

The most important hint to keep clearly in mind is whether you are storing those foods that you will eat during an emergency. Nothing is worse then to sit at a table and be forced to eat foods which do not appeal to you. Remember to take into consideration all members of the family or group when choosing your storage foods.Never waste your money on foods that no one will eat even if nothing else was available. Select foods that you and your family are familiar with. Before a disaster strikes make foods weekly with your stored supplies so the family is used to the types of meals they can expected during disasters. Making emergency food meals is not difficult or time consuming in the least.

I mentioned that I use both canned foods as well as dehydrated versions. The dehydrated foods come traditionally in the large number 10 cans such as the size frequently used in restaurants. You will need to shop around on the internet in order to find the best buys in these types of foods. There are several major companies out there that specialize in freeze dried and dehydrated survival foods. The major advantage of these supplies is that they will last you for many years as they sit on your food shelves.

Next don't be like some people that I know who store only enough food to allow them to exist. I like to keep at least 6 months to one year's worth of canned and dehydrated foods at all times. Even if it may appear to be more then I need you never know who may show up at your door during an emergency. Now I will briefly mention the topic of budgets since our economy is at an all time low. You can start out by purchasing a few extra cans of food and slowly work your way up to purchasing your canned foods by the case. Then it is merely a matter of buying a can or two of the dehydrated foods when you have the extra money.
