Even for beginning woodworkers, small furniture pieces, like a coffee table, are well within their abilities. Quality pieces can be crafted with the use of hand tools. Why purchase discount coffee tables made from cheap particle board, when with some inexpensive lumber and a well designed set of plans, you can build cheap coffee tables that you would be proud to have displayed in your home.

If you want make coffee tables cheap... go with a simple square coffee table design... basically a breadboard with legs of an appropriate height to make it functional for its intended use. As your skills improve, so will your furnishings. Visit the home of any woodworker and you'll immediately be drawn to the artful furniture that they have lovingly crafted.

Coffee tables are an excellent project to both improve, and showcase your woodworking skills. I still keep a few of my early pieces simply for sentimental value. But as my skills improved, so have my furnishings! Trust me, there is always a friend or family member that is more than happy to accept a beautifully crafted piece of wooden furniture as a gift.

So instead of purchasing that mass produced disposable particle board piece of junk, consider crafting a piece of furniture that could be in use for generations.
