How to Make Eating Healthy on a Budget Work

When we have difficult economic times its normal for us to look for the cheapest things which is ironically the worse foods for us. Just recently my family started a budget plan and of course for us this included a grocery budget as well. I'm going to give you the basic steps we followed to eat healthy while saving money.

It was surprising to see the change in our budget just from cutting out the fast food and carry out. What we did not notice was that eating out every once in awhile undoubtedly added up more than we originally thought. We started to cook all of our food from home. We soon discovered that quick delicious recipes made at home cost very little. Now I love to cook but its astounding what you can put together in as little as 20 minutes. All you need is a little creativity.

Truth be told I'm the one packing everyone's lunches. I usually use the leftovers from the night before and develop an innovative new meal out of them to make the lunches. It is usually a salad or a sandwich. My family was spending an average of $8-$10 each day on what they want to eat for lunch. Now instead they will be saving $280 dollars a month.

We have become masters at seeking out the sales in the stores. I know which grocery stores have the best prices on vegetables and fruits and where the best deal for specific items maybe. Many stores like Wal-Mart cover price match, but Wal-Mart does not match other Wal-Marts prices just competing stores its strange. If the weather is permitting on my days off I'll try the local farmers market and get fresh veggies and fruits. Not only will you be saving but you will get deliciously refreshing fruit and vegetables.
