Remember that web video is just that... for the web. You don't need expensive equipment or fancy light tools to get the job done. I've been doing video for some time and these 4 things I keep in mind every time I use my digital video camera.

Using a "quiet" video camera when filming. I find using a small camera like a digital camera that enables video or something like a Flip video portable camera works best when using a subject. When I interview a regular person, a small discreet camera make the interviewee feel more comfortable I find. It's not a big lug of machine pointing at your subject so they feel uneasy about being in front of the lens.

Watch out for background noise. You'll find that shooting outdoors you'll encounter different challenges like construction, such as loud vehicles passing by such as garbage or fire trucks. Be aware of these as they can affect the audio of your message. I've been in crowded, busy places like trade show and the people all around is making it difficult to listen to audio. Another thing I do is simply involve the "noise" into my story. I'll pan around and show my views where the noise is coming from and point the camera for a few seconds to show and tell. The audience is usually more forgiving with the extracurricular noise once they find out where it's coming from and try to hone in on your message more.

Watch your background. I've seen plenty of videos done in front of a busy painting or picture and you can't help but stare at the images and start thinking about it. It's best to use a plain background (unless the background is part of your story). A plain, solid, light colored wall is fine and I find works best. Just pay attention to your surrounding and if you are going to use a background for a talking head, make it as less "busy" as possible.
