For Centuries, man has used olive oil as a healing ointment for Nuculture Review a variety of ailments. But it has only been recently that we've understood the specific benefits of using it in our day to day lives. Lucky for most of us who love this oil, olive oil not only taste good, but recent studies suggest that it offers us many health benefits concerning our hearts.

Olive oil contains huge amounts of antioxidants such as chlorophyll, carotenoids, vitamin E and phenols. Studies in Greece have shown that these antioxidants help limit LDL cholesterol (the bad type of cholesterol) from sticking to the walls of arteries, thus preventing plague buildup. It's this buildup, or narrowing of the arteries, that is bad for us humans. Other studies suggest that taking two tablespoons each day for as little as a week can begin to show these healthier side effects.

The oil from olives is a monounsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fat is the "good fat" that you routinely hear about when people are talking about "good" and "bad" fats in your diet. Oil from olives also contains large quantities of Omega fatty acids. You're probably aware of Omega fatty acids and the positive health benefits these fats have on the heart. When considering adding this to your diet for the health benefits, one should only consider using EVOO (extra virgin oil). EVOO has the most healthful benefits because it is less refined than other oils. It's normally a little pricier, but most of us feel that it's worth the added cost for the benefits that we receive.

Nowadays many processors of this oil have turned to bottling it in plastic bottles I avoid buying it this way. Plastic bottles do not protect the valuable contents and can cause the oil to rancid faster than it normally would. Glass is still king so be sure to look for the proper identification certifying each bottle and make sure the bottle is glass. I prefer amber colored glass because it will give some protection from UV rays when compared to clear glass. Others have said they prefer to see the color of the oil and shy away from amber. But if the bottle carries the proper certification, there should be no worries.
