My GOT! Und I wundered why the reviews were so poor UNTIL TONIGHT. A SIMPLE graphic change and BAM non responsive UI and for most users NO WAY to kill the aberrant program(er I guess I mean game)...

The base engine is godawfulbad as EVERY SINGLE setting apparently REQUIRES the engine to RESTAT FFS!?! Utterly ASSININE!

.. and let use remember this is the first INTRODUCTION to the 'game', whatever it is(I'm being facetious as I've played every X game, but a NEW user\/buyer I feel sad for them as the user experience is BEYOND atrocious) is unfathomable.

While prior X games may have lacked polish, this one didn't even get close to the grindstone!

AND be MINDFUL this review is written 4\/19\/19. It's done for as far as fixes go I'd guess and it's a PALE PALE shadow of their other buggy games which still turned out to be fun unlike this monstrosity which you'd thnk that they'd at LEAST FIX THE BASICS but NOPE NOT HAPPENING APPARENTLY... SAD they can keep X4 until it's $1.

Lest you knick me, prior X games were fun, with my preference being modded X2. This game CAN run, however as implied above it is BY FAR the flakiest of the X series so far and this time around there is no way in hell that I'm plunking down $60 on X4 after previously plunking down on the 'xbox'... I'm happy to wait it out for a sale in the likely event that they don't fix it given 'rebirth'...

[\/edit2]. I have tried to play this game so many times. There's so much to try to like about this game... Wonderful visuals, fun HOTAS gameplay, and great space simulation. That said, the UI\/UX is absolute garbage. I just do not get it--Egosoft has been making these games for some 15+ years. You'd think they'd improve their UX in SOME way, but no. X Rebirth is a better version of X3, but only 1 ship, some really terrible campaign try, and all the things that made X3 great, stripped out (it's not better than X3, but the space\/flying mechanics feel more 'real'). Even at version 4.x, this game is terribly bug-riddled. Starter mission? No idea what to do. Finally blindly get into a fight with some big carrier? I clip into their hull, breaking the entire save, making my game unplayable. That's terribly frustrating.

If you love space sim games with storylines and lots to do otherwise, this game could be that game. For me, though, it's been nothing but a few years of trying to play this game with nothing but frustration and boredom to come of it. Is X4 any good....?

Dietrich Vader's Verdict: 2\/5 Bug-Riddled Asteroids. I hate to see all the negative reviews - this game is nowhere near as bad as others have said (IMO). I support the development team as they have always worked hard over the years to fix and improve gameplay for their full lineup.

I pre-bought this game, shelved it for a little while, and have come back enjoying it. I would definitely recommend in its current state to anyone interested in the genre.. i love this game, dont understand all the negative reviews. ITS A COOL GAME,I OWN ALL THE GAMES ,EACH ONE HAS ITS PROS AND CONS,BUT YA GATTA ADMIT,THERE MAKING PROGRESS,THE GAME REMINDS ME OF BABALON 5 TV SERIES,I BETCHA ANYTHING THE CREATERS WAS WATCHHIN IT WHEN THEY CREATED THE GAME!!!. Who wants a space sim where you can only fly ONE ship? On top of being stuck in one ship, there are STILL a ton of glitches, broken missions, and general nonsense going on in this game. I tried to like it, but for every good thing I found about it, there were two bad things waiting to be discovered. Man, this is a huge disappointment after playing the other X games. Seriously, skip this one.
