About This Game

Until I Have You, is a story-driven, fast-paced, retro-aesthetic platformer, engulfed in a Cyberpunk setting.

Driving you to the edge of your seat as you run n' gun through enemies, the game recounts a thrilling story of regret, love and corruption, in a city that’s gone haywire and just doesn't give a damn.

This is the story of the ARTIST, a talented assassin, who has worked many dirty jobs in a long and successful career. Finally heeding the pleadings of his wife, he has decided it's time to quit this ugly business and live a simple and peaceful life. However the ARTIST’s clients know he is irreplaceable, and are unwilling to allow the craftsman to hangup his tool belt. They send him this message by kidnapping his wife, Emily, and make it clear, retirement is not an option! The ARTIST is determined to get his wife back, and prepares himself for one last assignment. He understands to be successful he needs to go all out, and he procures a rare exoskeleton suit. Although this provides him with additional powers, it also can cause hallucinations and affect his judgment.

If you could save someone, how much of yourself would you be willing to sacrifice?

I really like this game but I'll admit that might be because I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I love pizel graphics. And this game make use of them in a stunningly gorgeous way. The soundtrack and visuals created a tone for this game that is really cool, something like playing a Blade Runner game on Genesis.

The gameplay is medium difficulty. It takes a little patience and truthfully sometimes I miss landing on a platform for reasons that seems slightly unfair but overall I like the mix of action and platforming.

I recommend this game to certain gamers: If you're sick of gorgeously rendered 3d open worlds so big you can get lost, and long for the days when you simply had to run right, this game is for you. If you like pixel graphics and sci fi noir this game is for you. (I will mention that I bought this game on sale and if you see it on sale yourself I would snap it up). This game have an Amazing Soundtrack!
Thanks a lot! ^^. the game is pretty good, I would recomend it if you like The Way, Lone Suvivor, or Neon Chrome.. So there are a LOT of these kind of "Go fast, jump precise, get everything perfect for a high score" games out there, but Until I Have You fixed the issues I usually have with these types of games that make them unbearable to me.

1. Fast and easy reloads- Even getting opening the menu and selsecting "Restart level" down to muscle memory is still not as convenient as having a button combo *right on the controller* that automatically resets the level. SUCH a time and effort-saver!

2. Concessions to humans- Some of us want to juust beat the game without memorizing every single millisecond of movement and placements, and for that Until I Have You generously gives us the second win mechanic, which allows basically a do-over of any failed jump, though be warned if you take off from an unsafe space, say a flame jet you jump off of when it's inactive, you might second-wind back into it when it's on and wind up dead instantly!

3. Actually compelling story- I'm a little more than a third of the way through the game, and I'm really, REALLY interested in seeing whateer comes next. Between the cinematics, the projections in the apartment, the newscasts, I am unsure what's going on in the *best* kind of way and can't wait to press on through the levels to see what else is in store. :D

So there you have it, the three big reasons why this is one of the very, very few "Speedrun-bait" games I've ever played and liked enough to buy.. Bought this for the aesthetics, stayed for the plot. It's dark, and you get a feel of noir. Buy this if you want to have some feels for the MC and some challenging stages.. Edit: Most of my gameplay time was spent outside Steam, as I was lucky enough to be able to help test this title. If you have any doubts about the validity of my review feel free to PM me.

Good, solid and fair gameplay. Controls are crisp and accurate (played on Xbox One controller) and completing a stage feels quite rewarding.
I spent around 20+ hours on the first walkthrough of the game. I kept going back because it just pushes you to play better and find shortcuts.

You'll die alot. You'll like it. You'll find it fair.. A mixed bag of a game, "Until I Have You" feels like a contraption jury-rigged by a savant technomancer somewhere in the city sprawl of 2077: brilliant and horrible ideas, rough edges and state-of-the-art components, all put together with duct tape. It makes you battle against its interface, it frustrates you, it delights you.
Gameplay-wise, it tries to be a super-fast and super-violent platformer, a cross between "Canabalt" and "Hotline Miami", and the best levels do manage to achieve this high bar. The problem is, however, that "Until I Have You" tries to be fast and minimalistic, but at the same time to have lots of different features. As the result, it keeps shooting itself in the leg, slowing the gameplay down so you can try all the mechanics. Superfast running and jumping stumbles upon cover shooting, choosing the right weapon to destroy obstacles, stealth action and other legitimately cool stuff that just doesn't mix together well.
The large variety of features also makes the gameplay very incosistent. For example, in the beginning you die in one shot. Then they add Hysteria meter that punishes you for killing enemies (and makes you wait for a solid minute for it to regenerate -- so much for superfast). Then Hysteria suddenly turns into a health bar substitute: enemy attacks rise it, but killing them doesn't anymore. There's no solid mechanic, "Until I Have You" turns into something slightly different (still very enjoyable, though just as messy) with each next level. It's such a mess that sometimes I had no idea if I have played the game the way it was intended, or abused a design flaw.
The story is pretty incoherent, which is ok for the Cyberpunk genre: after all, most of the classic works have unreliable narrators, unhinged characters, lots of drugs and/or mental issues, amnesia, hallucinations and cryptic symbols. To tell the truth, I don't trust writers who make cyberpunk stories too clear: it kills the "punk" part, turning it into simply SciFi. "Until I Have You"'s story is messed up just right: enough for you to have a general idea what's going on, how it started and how it ends. The atmosphere and the characters are done very well in terms of writing, art, music and voice acting. The urban sprawl is genuine with its neon, dirt and rain, the characters are either insane or corrupt, the politics are shady, and the plot twists go as expected. In addition to the well-done cutscenes, you can watch TV between the levels to get some news about your misadventures, or see some ads that give you insights into the world's dystopian daliy life.
"Until I Have You" is a real treat for any cyberpunk fan. For a regular gamer, it's still enjoyable, though hardly above average.. A retro style, cyberpunk, story driven, platforming masterpiece. Awesome cutscenes. Amazing soundtrack.. UNTIL I HAVE YOU is a Blade Runner-esque Metroidvania. I'm a sucker for both of those things, so this one really hit the spot.
