A quaint Australian fishing village is overcome by meteorites that turn its residents into the ravenous undead, leaving a small group of those unharmed to find a way out.
Peaceful, rustic Berkeley is a charming fishing community where life is sweet and the people friendly. All that is about to change. After losing her childhood farm to the bank, local beauty Rene decides to leave town and head for the big city. Suddenly, an avalanche of meteorites races through the sky, bombarding the town and bringing an otherworldly infection. Departing is going to be much more difficult than she had planned. The living dead are awakened and Rene is now caught in a nightmare of zombies hungry for human flesh. She manages to find salvation in a small isolated farm house owned by the town loony, Marion. There she is met with four other desperate survivors. Together they battle their way through a plague of walking dead and discover that there is more transpiring than just an infection.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie and was pleasantly blown away. The non-heroic "hero" was awesome. The movie would be moving right along at a nice clip, then throw something so out of character and hilarious at me that I would be taken aback and laughing, waiting for the next off the wall break in the action. I'd highly recommend this movie to any of my friends. The casting of the actors was brilliant and it kept up a really good pace throughout. While writing this review, I am thinking that I'm going to watch this movie again this coming weekend! It is definitely one of those films that I'll queue up when friends are over so we can all laugh together.
Well, I got that one on DVD since a while (here in Europe its released already) and watched it twice within a year. And honesty its not bad. It got its fun parts, the acting is a little overdone from time to time but thats wanted as the whole movie got a very ironic touch. Don't expect a standard-zombie-flick. It might look as one, but then again its taking a funny and weird twist that makes it outstanding and special. It amused me, it entertained me, the overdrawn characters are fun to watch and it gives the movie a refreshing comic-style. Still enough gore for zombie-fans and enough atmosphere to keep the thing going for its running time. Watch it and have fun, cause thats all it is....
In the end, the film is a stale, derivative mess that borrows heavily from every zombie and alien movie worthy of imitation, to only ho-hum effect.
