First they hook Crowe by pretending Pete is a dirty cop, and lure him into putting up the cash for a cocaine transaction, which they deliberately make go wrong, and ultimately promise to go steal a fortune in cash from police evidence custody. Kelly, a guy who works at the Foundation and a friend of Mac and Pete, doesn't show up for a party Mac and Pete are throwing him. So Mac goes to his place and discovers he's trying to kill himself via asphyxiation. Mac saves him and Kelly says he was doing it so that his children could have his insurance money. It seems like he was the victim of a con artist named Crowe and lost all his money. Mac and goes to Pete and learns that Crowe is a slippery dude who has never been arrested. Mac wants to go get Crowe and recover the money he got from Kelly and his other victims. They bring in a Foundation researcher who is knowledgeable about cons. So they try to lure Crowe by Pete and Mac posing as a crooked cop and his source. They first try to get him to provide them with some drugs they need to pull a scam. They bring in Kelly to help. And the plan seems to be working. But Crowe gets concerned and decides he wants some assurance,
