About This Content

London Transport’s finest comes to Train Simulator with the London Transport Heritage Pack, featuring classic capital traction for you to enjoy.

1938 Tube Stock

As their name suggests, the 1938 Stock was first introduced on deep-level ‘Tube’ lines shortly before the start of the Second World War. In particular, the Metro-Cammell-built 1938 Stock spent their first 50 years on the Bakerloo, Northern, Piccadilly, Central Lines and even the sub-surface East London Line. After ending their time with London’s railways in 1988, many units of the 1938 Stock were sent for scrap, a few carriages survived into preservation, however some were sold to Network SouthEast for service on the Isle of Wight.

Surprisingly, the ex-1938 Stock of the Isle of Wight, now classified as the BR Class 483, is still shuttling between Ryde and Shanklin to this day, making them the oldest passenger rolling stock still in service in the UK – pushing on for 80 years old!

In Train Simulator, the 1938 Stock is represented in Northern Line condition, complete with period destination boards and advertising. Driving the Tube Stock is most bespoke, and your time in the classically fitted driving cab will be a challenging yet rewarding experience as you run heritage services.

GWR 5700 Class

It’s no secret that the GWR loved their tank engines, what can be said, they were highly useful in many roles, but perhaps none more so than the 5700 Class. Known today as the ‘Pannier Tank’, GWR’s 5700 Class stood tall as an 863-strong fleet of locomotives that could cope with light goods, shunting, passenger, branch and even mainline use.

Their reputation and abundance meant they were a popular contender for smaller companies after the general end of steam, and London Transport put a handful to use on engineer’s trains right up to the early 1970s.

The Pannier Tank is represented authentically in the London Transport Heritage Collection, sporting the pristine maroon and gold livery as applied to a select few examples of the remaining locomotives. While a couple of the engines await restoration in real life, London Transport’s Panniers will be raring to steam in Train Simulator, with lucky passengers in-tow as you manage the pressure on the historical run.

BR Class 20

As the era of steam ended, the British railway network was in need on an entirely new generation of motive power. English Electric would be the starting gun for the country’s early diesels, and one of their pioneering designs, the Type 1, was built as a mixed-goods locomotive that could replace a large sum of not only steam traction, but also other early diesels which were proven unreliable. In recent years, the remaining Type 1 fleet, or as it was re-classified, the Class 20, is usually found on engineering trains, or of course passenger excursions.

For the London Transport Heritage Collection, BR Class 20 No. 20142 is featured in her newly applied maroon and gold livery, as the 20s are well known for engineering operations across London Underground lines and taking part in special celebrations. The 20s are nicknamed by enthusiasts as ‘Choppers’, owing to their distinctive helicopter-like sound when running under load, mow’s the time to put them through their paces and chop up the landscape while performing a beat.

Pros: LT Pannier, Nice route with a few scenarios and fun to shunt and drive on.

Cons: Class 20 has a broken horn, Rolling stock is all from pre released items and the route is alright.
It would be nice if the 4 wheeler coaches were in Metropolitan livery rather than southern.

As you can see compared to the cons there isn't many good things about the route.

If you can pick this up for a low price in a sale I'd recommend it if Metropolitan\/LT stuff is to your interests, But not at full price.. Bought the Route, which is nice, even is it is a fictional one, there is enough scope for shunting and there is an animated crane for loading small containers onto 4-wheeled flat wagons.
I really like the 1938 Tube stock, looks good and is\/are easy to drive.
Pannier very good, except I felt the brakes were not the best, there does not appear to be a "Lap" position, so you are having to "apply" then "release", "apply" etc.
Class 20 is good except for the Horn.
The 4-wheeled coaches are nice, except the tail light is on all the time and on all coaches. This I found a bit annoying, especially as there is so many examples of intelligent Tail lighting coaches and wagons about nowadays.

So Cons for me are:
Tail lights on coaches need to be bought up to intelligent status.
Horn on the Class 20 to be fixed.
Brakes on the Pannier to have a "Lap" or "Run" position added.. Well...

Anticipation can be a good thing - it can also be a bad thing. I started playing Train Simulator in 2014, long after a number of classic packs were discontinued. One of which I remember hearing about is Phorum Peninsula. I'd seen videos & pictures of it before & I thought "Hey, this looks pretty good. I wish I could drive on it." Well, a little while ago it was announced that the old route would be returning with a set of London Transport Loco's (in the NSE Era no less!!). I was very intrigued.

I purchased it at full price last Easter and... deary me. For those who didn't know, the original route had the circuit of track around the island, the docks & two narrow gauge lines - one to the Quarry & one to the beach. It seemed fairly nice, not bad for a fictional place. But... really? Who'd put a load of London Underground trains in a place like this? Well... perhaps some rich geezer with a lot of money to spare.

The trains included in this pack feel like a clip show of TS add-ons. The 'tube train' is a repaint of the one from the Isle of Wight - alright if you want them for a route with London Underground and they are alright in general. The Class 20 is dissapointing - the sounds are awful (ex-IHH right?) and the controls are poor compared to Just Trains example. However, the Pannier is the '50's Riviera' one repainted - not bad. And the rolling stock? Well, it's a mixed bag but it's OK.

So... no, I don't recommend this one. Not at full price anyway - that was the mistake I made. You can buy it in a sale if you like; the loco's aren't bad, but the route's fairly poor. Oh well.... I bought this along with the Isle of Wight route mainly because I wanted to enjoy the London 1938 stock in two different ways. But I ended up regretting this part of the purchase, and because I played for too long I can't get a refund.

The only "strong" point of this DLC is the 1938 tube stock itself. Is not entirely true that it's a mere repaint of the IoW Class 483, as it boasts a new, more detailed interior and driver cab, plus middle coaches that the IoW stock doesn't have. But those are pretty much the only good things about it. Many people say the headlights don't work, and that's not true. They do work with the correct combination of keys. They are tied to the train destinations, which by the way are totally unrelated to the ridiculously-named stations of the route. The manual does not specify anything about this. The interior at first glance is aesthetically better than the IoW stock, but when you go through a tunnel at daytime it becomes very dark, like if the lights weren't illuminating at all. The brake handle is the wrong way around, and it's annoying if you're already used to the Class 483 from the IoW, which is basically the same train. There are a few level crossings on the route, and in one of them the cars simply do not stop when you're about to pass.

I haven't tried the rest of the trains, but apparently from what I've heard they are all reused from other packs, and so is the route. This very route was previously available as a DLC named "Phorum Peninsula" whose funds went to charity. They removed it from the store at some point, and brought it back with some changes as a mere cash-grabber.

Don't buy this add-on. Buy the Isle of Wight route instead, it's a bit older but a lot more of care and effort was put into it.. I bought this mainly for the 1938 stock. Some good work has been done to the original IoW model to bring it up to the 1938 changes. The exterior and interior are great. I find it disrespectful when people suggest its just a reskin of the IoW model. Its not. A lot of care has been taken to make the subtle changes to the model and textures. It drives differently too with lots of script changes.

Negatives... Rains inside passenger car. Doors don't open in passenger car view. Doesn't sound like a 1938 Stock train. The only saving grace is I can drive this on the community made Virtual District Line.. It not that bad but i have to thing i have to complain First Black 5 noises as 1938 stock stopping into stations
they should know by now they need to use differnt sounds for differnt trains.

this pack should actual London undeground DLC not made up island pleas TRAIN SIMULATOR MAKE A PROPER LONDON UNDERGROUND MAPPPP.
. I really was expecting much better concerning the 1938 class. The model is pretty good, the passenger interior is superb, but oh dear.... they have re-used the sounds from the IOW. They were awful but we excused it as an early DLC. Even then the tube train sounded like 'nothing like a tube train'. It was like a vacuous cardboard cut-out with no personality. To repeat it is beyond a joke and you should feel insulted. This is, excuse the pun, end of the line rehashed content for an end of the line game. Don't buy it unless someone pulls some better sounds in. Even the 455 sounds would have been better than this hatchet job.. This addon has received some poor reviews. Let me say I was SUPER excited to see LU Heritage stock coming to TS. The 1938 Stock may have some recycled sounds, but the interior is certainly a LOT better the IoW 483. The Pannier is fabulous, a Pannier with no BR shedplate. This is very nice, but also opens up GWR reskin opportunities. If we ever want to see any more classic Met stock (Met 1, 353, Milk Brake, etc) reviews need to be good. I will say, I was disappointed by the fact that only 20142 and not identical 20227 was included, and by the fact that there were no teaks, merely straight port-IoW coaches, but after running it, and making a few personal changings, I can forget all of those minor bugs. Hopefully they will change too. It is LU people, what other options are there? I have a feeling this stock will be coming in useful rather soon as well..... Don't buy this. It's just reskins, the route isn't that good anyway. The only positive is that you get the Phorum Peninsula assets. Refund if you can.. In a haiku:

just reskins, dont buy
20 has broken horn and brake
physics are all wrong
