A lead on the Philosopher's Stone leads the Elric brothers to a remote desert city whose citizens worship a sun god and are led by a prophet who is purported to perform miracles.
Usually with anime I am a casual watcher of it. I mean yes, if anyone was to say they loved anime, based on what I've seen - I could see why. They're uniquely Japanese in some cases but often times, it's good to step out of cultural boundary. TV Shows in anime, I don't think I have had THAT much success. I've seen Blood+ and I grew out of that after about 6 episodes, and no offense to any fans of the original Dragonball cartoons but I have no idea how that became a cultural phenomenon. This however, while the plot seemed kind of sketchy, I enjoyed it.

This is a world where there is a form of science called Alchemy where you can magically trade something in for something else, equal of value... Such as turn enough grass into a loaf of bread. Two brothers decide to resurrect their mother, unaware of the equality fine-print. One has to be a living suit of armour and the other needs a prosthetic leg and arm. Sometime later they're looking for something that could stop them from being like this. When they enter a country town it seems that there's a religious miracle worker, when really it's Alchemy. This guy also disobeys the equality rule but he gets a free pass because he has the Philosopher's Stone on a ring he wears so they try and expose him for what he is.

The animation for the less realistic style anime is actually quite good and I was actually surprised when I worked out the whole "religion Vs Science" thing going on throughout this episode. I would have to say that the English voice acting, surprisingly - is quite good and they did squeeze in there what hurting someone with a religious cult can do with a character named Rose as she tries to get the Prophet to try and resurrect her boyfriend, when she also has no parents. I actually liked this, it actually is one of the few shows to end on a cliffhanger that actually made me genuinely feel like I wanted to watch more of it.

Being that this is my first watching of anything Fullmetal Alchemist, I can't really say who would like this. All I am saying though is that I am probably going to get this on DVD the first chance I get.
