A flashback into the last several days in Beth's life actsan extended prologue to the current day goings-on of the sisters. Beth has a source who she has not mentioned to anyone, including Art, which leads her and Art to their next case, what Art seesjust the homicide of a man named Edward Capra, but which Beth knows is part of what her source tells her is about the Neolutionists, who are all around her according to the source. As such, the source tells her not to trust anyone, even those closest to her. Two issues of interest concerning Capra are a square piece of his right cheek which has been removed, and reconstruction of his sex organ into two. Beth has to figure out how these two items relate to the Neolutionists. Beth has also just started managing the fund for her, Alison and Cosima, bankrolled by Alison for them to live while Beth largely shoulders the legwork on figuring out what is going on with them. She is dealing with all the stress in her life, which includes a s*** relationship with Paul, with cocaine use, and turning to the one person she figures she truly can trust for emotional comfort. But with Beth now gone, what were loose ends in her life start to reemerge for the living sisters...

I am so devastated. This was one of my favourite shows ... I'd even say it was my all time favourite. We're now on episode four of season four and I'm afraid to say it's beaten me to a pulp with a rather large and knobbly stick of boredom. The first episode of season four is completely unnecessary and dare I say dull beyond belief. Sometimes things do not need to be explained. Let the viewer figure out what's going on please ... the first three seasons offered so much intrigue and excitement. Have the writers decided that the show should now appeal to pre schoolers? I keep waiting for a subtitle saying "she's pulling out a gun now (that's a weapon containing bullets that can be used to end the life of a living creature,human or animal (see your local library for more details) I'm so sad. The acting was incredible and still is but the storyline is hodgepodge and desperate at best. I hate giving up but my life is precious and there's some terribly interesting wet paint that needs watching.
I liked this episode, but I do have some problems with it. The episode goes back to the final week or so of Beth's life. This affords the opportunity to revisit characters who have died or evolved, which was cool. However,cool and funit was, some characters felt like they were shoe-horned in just so that they would get their "past cameo". It felt too convenient at times that these people would just happen to come together without having seen each other.

The other thing that I really liked in the episode was a more in-depth look at Beth. Early in the episode, we learn that she actually has a cocaine addiction. That makes a lot of sense, especially once you see first-hand how chaotic, jumbled, and insane her life is. The way this episode chronicled the beginning of her gradual descent into madness reminded me quite a bit of Laura Palmer's story in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

The episode introduces a new clone. I really liked the way they handled it; introducing her through Beth and flashback, then making her relevant to the modern plot. However, I was disappointed by the clone herself. She does not really have any distinguishing mannerisms or features to differentiate her from the other clones. We don't really know anything about her character yet, so it's hard to invest.

Some of the editing was slightly jarring in this episode, so much so that it felt like continuity errors. One example is when Art is sitting on the couch with his daughter, watching TV. Suddenly, the door is being opened from the outside, and Art is holding the door from inside. It's like he teleported. There were other examples of it in this episode. Also, quick side-note, when Alison sent Beth the flowers, how did she know where Beth would be? She was just sitting there in her car, someplace random. How on earth did the guy find her? This has really been bothering me.

In the end, I look forward to the rest of the season, and while this episode has many neat things, it also has many dubious things
