About This Game

The Loire Valley during the 15th Century. As influential princes, the players devote their efforts to careful trading and building in order to lead their estates to prominence. Two dice set out the action options, but the players always make the final choices. Whether trading or livestock farming, city building or scientific research, many different paths lead to the prosperity and prominence of the players! The many ways to gain victory points in this building game require careful thought round after round along with extensive planning ahead. Ok - the first thing you need to know is that this is a great game.

Full of great choices and a great example of the genre.

So, why the negative review?

Because it loses your on line save games - they might come back after a while - they probably will - after you have timed out.

I would love to give this a positive review - I love the game, its great but this issue makes me also hate it.. Loving this game. I have many more by the same company, so I'm used to the interface. It's a lot better laid out if you play in windowed mode.

it's easy to find online matches, and people play fairly quickly, even in asynchronous mode.

The gameplay itself is easy to understand, but there is a huge amount of depth of what you can actually do, resulting in a game that is mostly skill dependent (very little luck in this game). Definitely recommended.. Good game. I know the boardgame and it's one of my favourite. The Hard Ai is very good and I've fun play against. I'm really loving this conversion of the physical board game! There's a handful of reviews down-voting the game due to the interface, this can be easily fixed by playing in windowed mode or running Borderless Gaming. It then runs identical to the mobile version(which I bought also so I can play my async turns whilst afk!). This is a general trend with digital conversions of board games so is no real reason to down-vote.

The game is easy to learn, you have a number of options on your turn : collect tiles based on your dice roll, collect workers, buy tiles, place tiles and sell goods. You can play combinations of these options to maximise efficiency of game, ultimately aiming to score the most victory points. Learning these tactics is the part of the game that will take a little more time than learning the basic mechanics.

It's easy to find an online game, I'm playing most my games in asynchronous mode which also makes good use of Steam notifications. The turn timer is 24 hours, but most games flow a lot faster than this!

One criticism is it does take a few seconds to switch to view an opponents board. It would be nice to have this sped up a bit, as I do find myself not bothering to check an opponents board as I don't want to wait the seconds to change view and then change back. It would be nice to have a quicker method to switch the view of player.

Really awesome game though, it's now my favourite release of 2019 so far. If you enjoy digital board games in the euro-style then it's a no-brainer to buy.. 1. Where are the expansions? I thought this was supposed to include the expansions.

2. I think the app scores 1 point too many for the knowledge tiles for animals. Anyone else notice this?. I've played hundreds of Castles of Burgundy games but don't enjoy playing this version.

Animations take up too much time. The isometric perspective of the UI is hard to understand. I'd rather just play on other platforms.

People who designed this game are obviously not people who play online board games.
