Ten Common Mistakes Parents Make In Making Residential Placements


Treating OCD can come in two approaches: one dealing with medical methods and  Brain C-13 Review  the other pertaining to therapy. Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz, a Psychiatrist, is known for his Four Steps in Cognitive Therapy. For the most part, this therapy focuses on arriving at healthier and more effective ways of reacting to obsessive thoughts or images instead of the route of compulsive behavior. One part of this therapy is called response prevention as the individual is exposed to the causes of his obsessions with the goal to prevent the compulsive reaction and to replace them with a more proactive set of responses.

Relabel: This is the first step in cognitive therapy with the following goals: to identify the specific obsessions that affects an individual, to deeply understand what these urges are, and to acknowledge that these urges are caused by OCD which will eventually identify these symptoms as unreasonable and react appropriately. This step in the therapy does not employ direct resistance to the uncontrolled urges. Instead, this therapy aims to label these obsessions and help the individual control the resulting and usual compulsive responses to be healthier.

Although brain injury is a leading cause of disability among adults in the US according to the Centers for Disease Control, the availability of services remains woefully inadequate. In today's economic climate with most states facing budget shortfalls along with a federal budget deficit, adequate funding for brain injury programs and services is at an even greater risk than ever before.

Effective advocacy for brain injury services is essential to raise public awareness about the needs of survivors and their families. The voices of persons who live with brain injuries and their families can provide powerful testimony for legislators, administrators and budget analysts. It is the personal story that is often remembered long after the graphs, data and reports have been read or heard. But too many survivors and family members don't know how to be effective advocates. By following these tips, you can be a powerful voice for change.
