Gets ridiculous by the end. Don't expect to finish it. I remember playing a flash (or HTML5?) demo of this game on Newgrounds somewhere between 2015 and 2017. I found the gravity manipulation mechanics interesting, but overall, I wasn't very impressed with it. The graphics were, well, typical of what I had already considered "dated newgrounds graphics" at the time (a lot of games between 2009 and 2013 had this type of look, and I don't remember much of the details aside from a general overuse of gradients and "shiny" UI design with not enough focus on substance, theme, functionality or timelessness, and that sometimes bled into the artwork, making for a messy and inconsistent graphical style that felt amateurish to look at), and the gameplay was quite repetitive. Seeing that the guy planned to sell the game, I decided to pass on it, and I even left a review on my experience, giving it probably 3/5 stars.

Today, I can't find that demo nor my review of it anywhere (he must have pulled it), so I was kind of confused, but I decided to buy this game and give it a try since it was on sale, and I wanted to see how it had improved since then.

Wow, the final game? Nothing like the demo. I played the first level up to the boss and bonus stage, and essentially every complaint I remember having about the demo is absent from the final product. For what this is, the graphics are gorgeous and completely blow my memory of the demo out of the water, the gameplay is polished and exciting, and the soundtrack is banging. I will say that there are some elements that seem to make the game easier, namely the ability to take hits from debris/enemies and spring right back into shape with no direct consequences aside from being absent for one second, and the little "shadow" hint that telegraphs where the ball is headed. But by the time you get to the boss, it quickly becomes apparent that these do not break the game. In fact, the gravity manipulation can screw you over if you aren't using it carefully. You could be bringing it towards you and the boss could attack right where the ball is headed, forcing you to miss the ball. Thus, this game mechanic turns out to add to the experience, rather than detract or clutter it.

Also, the bonus stages have you juggling balls for as long as you can, which is every brick-breaker fan's favorite thing to do in games like Arkanoid.

So if you also played the demo that I'm talking about, and liked it even a little bit, then you're sure to enjoy this game. If you like Arkanoid, you'll probably like this game. If you like brick-breakers and don't mind a little pizazz, you'll probably like this game.. With a top notch soundtrack and upgraded breakout gameplay, shatter is probably one of the best deals you can get out there on steam, specially when its on sale.

The game has clean graphics and a futuristic "blocky" art style that is pleasing on the eyes. The story mode is quite lengthy, it can get boring at times, more often towards the end game but the creative boss fights and good music help to make the first playthorugh very enjoyable.

Story mode lacks replay value but bonus mode and boss time attack are good, entertaining options, when you want a quick game.

Shatter is an amazing game that is constantly overlooked. It is not TF2, but for an indie game and its price it is quite the deal.. If you are a fan of Arkanoid or Breakout, you will love this game! It gives you some neat controls and a few power-ups and lets you go crazy with lots of levels and interesting boss fights. What else can you ask for?. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission, and the fun Breakout variant gameplay is the icing on the cake. A nice game to play, relax, and listen to some great tunes.. This is an older Brick-breaker. It still holds up great for throwing some time away while avoiding the cold over the winter breaks! It's really good. Grab it if you see it on sale!
