I feel like this game is trying to hard. The restriction on playing your cards each turn just makes the game worse imo. I don't appreciate the theme. The RTS part of the game is basically not eggistant. I feel like the game board should be bigger and that you should have more control over your side of the board. Overall the gameplay to me feels rushed with little room to really play your turn other than spam your cards as fast as you can. I didn't see an option for not choosing a card when it's time to pick cards which makes stream lining your deck a strategy you can't even really utilize.
Sorry to the devs but I have to say hard no on this 1.. This game is not a Slay the Spire clone. It is RTS and you have to think about placement as the game gets harder\/ascended.
I've read that in quite a few reviews and I have to say that where it has similar features, the game brings it's own and they work together to make a different, but equally as good deck building game.
There a criticisms from reviews saying they beat the game on the first play through and you only need one deck. I've been playing this game and running through the seasonal dungeon (similar to ascension). There is not, one deck. It all depends on the cards that drop, synergy and the path you choose as to how you progress in this game.
I'm 30 hours in and I'm on the last ascension for the first out of three characters. Yes, the 'campaign mode' can be easy depending on your difficulty playing and if you get an awesome seed with cards you want.
You can also edit the characters you play with and choose their starting decks, which affects the build of the game.
One flaw I have with this game is that it can lag slightly when there is so much on the screen. I guess this is an optimisation issue that'll be fixed in the future, and whilst it doesn't affect game play all that much, in the later stages it's more of a challenge when you're trying to see whats coming at you and your screen is filled with mortar fire and loads of creatures sent by the enemy.
This should definitely be on everyone's wish list if they're fans of Slay the Spire, Minion Masters\/Clash Royale and card games. It has it's own unique blend of gameplay and it works. Hopefully there will be multiplayer and tournaments at some point, that would be a great feature!
. Let me start off by saying, I don't normally write game reviews, but Overdungeon has a special place that definitely deserves one.
First and foremost, the game is very fun.... for about 20 hours or so. It has the potential to have much more replayability, but it's currently early access, so there's only so much to be done. It's very easy to get into, even if you're not someone who has played card games because it has easy difficulty settings available, to where the player is given some pretty large early advantages.
The game is full of very satisfying moments where you can even get some really good laughs if you set up some insane builds.
However, now for the downside.
Currently the game is in a state of balance where every run has this point where the run feels like it's either unwinnable or unlosable. What I mean by this, is either you will be so very weak that you will get 4 turned by an enemy, or you will be so strong that no enemy can ever touch you and the game is just won. The whole time I've played (18 hours on steam record) I have not had a run where I've felt like I've struggled to get through it, but that it was possible. You either get the cards and the relics or you don't. This comes from an imbalance of several cards and relics, which when obtained, fit into almost any deck and significantly make it stronger.
All in all, I would absolutely recommend this game. For its price of $14.99 US (I believe), you will get quite a few hours of enjoyment out of it. I will definitely be watching for updates to come back and try some more out.
