Trained since childhood to be a lethal killer, Raizo has since turned his back on the Ozunu clan that raised him and now seeks revenge for their heartless murders. Teaming up with Europol investigator Mika, Raizo steadily butchers his enemies while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody reunion with his former master.
When several people are killed in a peculiar manner, a Europol agent suspects that it could be the work of Ninja assassins. Her superiors warn her that she's entering dangerous territory. But she investigates nonetheless and it leads her to another dead agent who was also investigating the same thing. When she is marked for death, she is saved by another Ninja, whom she learns has gone renegade.
For a brief period of time in the early to mid 80s, Ninjamania swept the world and the masked masters of the mystical martial arts seemed to be everywhere. During that time, they were elevated to the level of comic book heroes, often possessing super human speed, strength and leaping abilities as well being masters of near magic-like powers.

During that era, dozens upon dozens of movies were produced; most of them of the low budget, B-movie variety. There was little variation in the plots, with most focused on one ninja seeking revenge against another. Which brings us to 'Ninja Assassin', an attempt to revive the long-dormant genre with a 21st century edge. It doesn't quite work.

Filled with cartoonish violence and over-stylized action, 'Ninja Assassin' undercuts any sense of drama that it's disjointed script tries to build. The performances are certainly no worse than those of its 80s predecessors, and in fact the best performance here is by 80s ninja icon Sho Kosugi who's quite menacing as the main villain.

Unfortunately, 'Ninja Assassin' fails to capture the guilty pleasure fun of the genre and instead delivers a film that simultaneously manages to takes itself too serious and then subverts that by being utterly absurd. After reading a couple of reviews, i was prepared to come out of the theatre disappointed, but what i saw on screen was a fantastic homage to a a genre that has become a bit of a joke... the Ninja is back! I cannot understand why this movie could get a negative review. You are paying money to watch a film about violent assassins and this is exactly what you get. Blood by the bucket load, dismemberment, decapitation, all the things you would expect from a Ninja movie. I would pay to watch this again, and can only hope that 18 rated movies are not a thing of the past, and that this one does well at the box office so a sequel can be made.

A must see. You don't go into a movie called Ninja Assassin expecting a hell of a lot, but this shockingly disjointed and relentlessly dull picture can't even deliver the martial-arts kick its title so plainly promises.
In Singapore only a cut version of this movie was released in order to get a rating. This censored version misses out nearly 45 seconds of violent scenes that are featured in the uncensored versions. The following advisories are provided byHome Box Office
