I played this game when it first came out kids. That's right. I played on DOS. My CPU was so slow in late game you'd hit 'next turn' and go grab lunch and PRAY it was done when you got back. Games took a while.

Back then you kept your games on a shelf, in boxes like freakin' board games. Back then you went to a physical store and walked around trying to decide what to buy because the gaming magazines with reviews lagged behind the release of games so you had to decide what was good by the box art.

In those heady, pioneering days, small groups would meet in tiny rooms and exchange floppies to try new games. I won't say it was right but it was our world. This one though, oh it was a sneaky one. You had to keep the manual to play it. You had to have the manual on your desk ready at any time. Well played. I was hooked though, it had given me a taste.

Off to the store I went. 25 years later, it's come back. At last I can have my revenge on those sneaky Darlocks and punish them for the bio-warfare annihilation of Imra and Beta Ceti. I'm coming for you guys, you Jawa Faced MFers.

I still am amazed at how well it holds up. It's not pretty (by today's standards) but it's playable. Thanks to DOSBOX I have been playing a few games and just leave it up 24\/7 in a window to the side and play when I need a break.

Protip: Subspace Teleporter and Neutronium Bombs= Heaven.. How in God's name is this rated less than MOO2? MOO2 was a massive disappointment after playing this. MOO1 is brilliant
