Major construction project to affect Zhangjiang traffic
Traffic in Pudong's Zhangjiang area will be affected over the next six months due to a major elevated road project that starts next Monday. To get more Pudong New Area, you can visit shine news official website.

All eight ramps of the Outer Ring Road on Longdong Avenue will be shut from April 15 till October.

A new 14-kilometer, six-lane elevated road in the middle of Longdong Avenue which connects the Inner Ring Road, Middle Ring Road, Outer Ring Road and the G1501 Expressway is expected to relieve traffic pressure on the avenue which has six vehicle lanes and two non-vehicle lanes.

The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of next year.

The current ramps on the Outer Ring Road at the avenue will have to be dismantled, and motorists are advised to get on or off the ring road from ramps at nearby Jinhai Road, Gaoke Road E. and Huaxia Road E.

The junction of the Outer Ring Road and the Longdong Avenue is one of the largest and busiest in the Pudong New Area with about 4,300 cars per hour using the ramps of the ring road during rush hours, police said.

“The nearby ramps are already under huge pressure during rush hours,” said Guo Hengming, a senior engineer with Pudong traffic police. “The traffic volume at the Jinhai Road ramp, for example, is about 3,500 cars per hour during morning rush hours.”

The major users of the Outer Ring Road in this part of Shanghai are residents of Zhangjiang and neighboring Tangzhen Town as well as manufacturers in the area.

Guo said new ramps to and from the ring road are expected to be constructed by the end of September, when motorists can get on and off the ring road again from and to Longdong Avenue.

To relieve the increased traffic pressure on the nearby ramps, Pudong police have put a few measures in place.

More lanes have been added on Jinhai Road and Gaoke Road E., and the traffic lights have been adjusted to give priority to vehicles getting on and off the ring road.

Also, larger trucks, or trucks with yellow plates, will be banned from using the ramps on the ring road at Gaoke Road E. from 7am to 10am and from 4pm to 7pm during the period.

While the number of lanes on Longdong Avenue will remain the same during the entire construction, the lanes will be moved to the sides to give way to construction of the elevated road in the middle.

Police said traffic at the intersections of the avenue with other streets will be slow because the intersections will become larger due to the construction of the elevated road.
