To escape evils of the Civil War, Cyrus removes his small family and random war prisoners by way of hot air balloon. Once landing on an island, the group finds they are surrounded by danger from giant insects and gold-craving pirates. Turned away by the only safe haven on the island, owned by Captain Nemo, played by Patrick Stuart, the group is forced to find shelter and survive.
This movie started out reasonably well, and it had a excellent cast.It is very well acted by the leads but all the pirates should have their actors guilds cards taken from them.

The story is a classic, even when very artistic license is takenin this production.

So it had two positive points, the cast and the J.Verne story line.

Sadly it is all down hill from there. I am taking into account that this is made for TV, but even so, the pirates were a joke and absolutely cartoon like. The special effects removed you out of the movie every time you started to get involved in it.They were pathetic.

If this movie was an hour long I might suggest you sit through it, but at 170 min, it was not a fun experience. I wanted to like this, and really the actors did pretty good, but I just can not recommend it.
I cannot believe why this movie has received such a bad review, it is a class act and a must see.

To be honest, since this was a low budget movie I assumed the Special effects, CGI etc were going to be of poor quality but boy was I surprised, the monsters in this put Jurassic park and the new King Kong to shame, if only they had access to the same systems the director of this film used.

The book does not do this film any justicethis is by far superior.

This film will cement Vinny Jones place within Hollywood and you will be more than surprised by the acting of Patrick Stewart who brings everything together is nothing less than a masterpiece, this movie should have and deserves to be released nationwide.
