About This Game

Journey of life is a survival sandbox game where the player finds himself on a group of islands where each island has a different biome with different flora and fauna.

In order to build a village, the player needs to create a variety of stations that will process materials found on the islands into components used in crafting tools and weapons needed for survival.

The player needs to build a dock on the coast to be able to construct a ship used in sailing between islands. Before the ability to departure, the player needs to fill the ship with resources such as food and water to survive the stormy seas!

Really good game for which 3 people develop it. Has a lot of potential - keep it up!. My review has been changed from negative to positive because of improvements made to the game and most lmportantly a price drop from $25 to $15. I am leaving the rest of the review as it was.

Journey of Life does a lot of things differently then most survival games. The main reason is its far more realistic. You start with 4 inventory slots, so making that backpack early on is key. You can't carry XX number of logs and stones, like most survival games let you do. Is that good or bad? Well I think that might depend on your preferences, I found I really liked it. Sure it can be a pain to gather resources to make the simplest items, but I felt like I accomplished something big even when it was really only a small item like a backpack or fireplace. So the question is how much do you value realism? I don't think anyone can carry more then a couple sticks or stones at a time in real life without the assistance of a backpack. So that is what Journey of Life goes for, and it does it well.

So why the negative review you ask..well I can't leave a neutral review that is why. I really like what they've got working in the game and many of the mechanics have potential, but it's still got a long way to go and the $25 price tag is too much of a risk for hoping they finish the game. Its only a 2 man crew and even though they have been quick to fix bugs and get patches out so far, I feel like this game has a few years of work left to go. As many of us know life can easily get in the way of that. I wish the price tag was $10 I would recommend taking a chance on it for that price.

Think about it and when all goes well i will buy it back, for now it's a refund !. In my first 30 minutes of this game, I have noticed how beautiful the game is, even using only the high graphics setting instead of the ultra graphics setting. The movement so far in the game is spot on, and I haven't noticed any bugs except that if you press escape while in the build menu, the camera is no longer locked. If I were to make the game better so far, I would add small quests in the beginning, like "building your first axe" and giving the user a little more 'how to' in starting the game. A good game to compare this type of quest to would be like 7 Days to Die. (Where the quests can be turned off if not needed but are still there for those who do need it).. I've played about 20 hours. Like any new game, the controls take a bit to get used to but once I figured them out all was good. I will not spoil the game in this review.

Good points: The graphics are very nice. A lot of work has been done here. The crafting system is very deep and has a good progression to it. For me, I'm going to list the realism as a very good point. The premise of this game is that you've come to the island to restart your life after you've lost everything. So when you start with nothing but your hands, your feet and barely some clothes, you can only hold so much - ("like, for reals"). What would you actually do if you found yourself on a beach like that? Gather and make piles. You can expand your carrying capacity later through crafting. There's a good diversity of plant and animal life to keep you occupied for probably at least 10 hours of play time. (I'm not there yet.).

Bad points: Some of the game mechanics are not obvious from the start and can be a bit frustrating until you figure it out. And if you're one of those people who will try to stick to it without looking for outside help (wiki's, other people, or their friendly Discord server), you may get frustrated. If you can't get a fire going before night (which seems to come quickly after you start a new game), you're literally left in the dark. Dehydration is real, and again, if you can't figure that out early enough then you'll die. (Which if you're one of those hard core players, you'll want to restart your game, amiright?)

Ugly: There are some bugs (early access!), so working around those can be annoying. Some of the graphics don't look like they line up properly on a 1050 screen (as opposed to a 1080). (Edit: I submitted this bug on their Discord and it's already worked through their Trello board!)

To sum up: I recommend this game. It's a well made survival game. So far it doesn't seem too grindy. I like the gathering and crafting system. The food/water/heath system seems fairly well done (some polishing required, but it's early access). I'm enjoying the creating of tools, crafting stations, and objects which come out of it. The only annoying thing with gathering is it can leave a bunch of unwanted "left over" material you can't readily use.. OK, but FPS ...

Need a bit of direction guide on how to do things to survive.
Walking isn't smooth(Sometimes, not always)
Crafting system is nice, I like it.
Item finding is easy but can be much better.
