This is a great game, with amazing gameplay, but it takes a long time to find a match. Inversus is a fantastic combination of deceptively simple gameplay with great strategic depth. I'm a big Geometry Wars fan, and this game doesn't feel like a replacement or a successor so much as a competitive compliment. There are two modes: verus and arcade. Arcade has you unlock levels one at a time, which is sometimes necessary for some of the more brain-bending levels, but just a little bit slower than I'd like. Versus is where the game really shines, though, if you can find a match. There are some maps in Inversus that wrap around themselves, so your ship and enemy ships are repeated throughout the screen. This is a very interesting aspect of the game and adds a lot of strategic depth. You may be focused on your ship on one side of the screen, but since the level might wrap around, an enemy could fire and have the bullet hit you from where you weren't looking. In versus mode especially, this builds into a large element of mindgames, positioning and fighting for the timing of powerups. When I have been able to connect to a match online, it's been very fun. The netcode is superb, everything is quite responsive, the gameplay is quick but very thoughtful. The only issue is that no one seems to be playing it online. The game works just as well as a multiplayer couch game, though. The game has a lot of promise and is immensely fun to play with others. I feel like the full game price is worth the quality of the gameplay, but some frugal players might be turned away until a sale.. Menus are great and aesthetically pleasing. Music fits the game wonderfully. Gameplay is simple but can get deep and engaging. The single player and multiplayer are both very fun, online needs more players so far (day one). The game maker's vision is clear, and the game feels complete. Flaws: - Game may need to be restarted when plugging a controller in after the game is already running (happened once with an xbone controller not showing in the available controller list) - Slow matchmaking. I never got into a match after 5 minutes, but the game just came out and my guess is there just wasn't anyone playing online at the time. Hopefully this improves with time. I absolutely recommend picking up this game if you like arcade multiplayer games. It's a game I'm going to enjoy playing with my friends for quite a while.. This game is awesome and you should play it with friends if you have any.. It is a pretty fun game, the mechanics are simple and it is easy to play, once u play it you wont stop, the only problem is that the game is a little but old and its almost impossible to find online players, but if you got friends and some controllers laying around you can play 1v1v1v1 or 2v2. I first encountered an early build of Inversus at Bit Bash 2015, and was instantly impressed. At the time, there was just multiplayer mode and only about 7 or so stages, but it was already apparent that this was something special. The core mechanics were quite simple, but allowed for impressive strategic depth, intertwining shooting with territory control. Think Othello mixed with a competitive top-down shooter. Since then, the developer has added about another 20 multiplayer stages, online play, a single-player arcade mode with 7 stages, and numerous unlockables, turning what was a promising demo into a quite compelling game. Unfortunately, matchmaking appears quite sparse at the moment, but if you have friends to play with, Inversus comes highly recommended.. After three hours or so and half of the achievements, I think it's clear that this twin stick shooter is well polished, quite enjoyable and has a some interesting mechanics. But it's equally clear that game content is nowhere near to deserve it's asking price. The free-to-play duration (which I used to play the game) was indeed very generous, but it was also more than enough to discern any weak points. For me the biggest points are lack of progression and lacking gameplay variation. The game is not bad, just very overpriced for what it's offering. The arcade mode is very zen-ish and if you like games like geometry wars or perhaps super hexagon (in-the-zone gameplay), then you'll probably like this as well.. Wow i got to play this at pax east and it was a lot of fun. Playing that again i feel like its even more polished and awesome now! They managed to make the single player REALLY enjoyable for high score chasers like myself cant wait to dive back in. I also got to dive into some multiplayer which i was really excited for. Someone named Gongon poped into my game and we went back and forth at it for about an hour stright !!! keep in mind matches last what, maybe 2 minutes or so ? so you can do the math how many matches we played ! You can tell after a while we were both playing mind games and trying different strats on each other, what a blast. You can pretty much see what your getting yourself into this game in the trailer so ill tell you a thing or two that you CANT SEE. There is actually a good amount of strat. that goes into VS. people in this game.. FIRST OF ALL, game aside, I just want to say the developer is the coolest! I had a problem running the game with my Nvidia 930MX, and he helped me personally to identify the problem. Now for the game - it's really fun! I've fell in love with it. Play with a friend for maximum Awesomeness.. The gameplay premise in Inversus is amazing, and is complemented by the two gamemodes it offers. Unfortunatly, the community isnt very large, so queue times are dependant on whether or not anyone else is online. This does, however, make the community feel even more connected and passionate. There is a discord server, so if you want to play the versus mode, you wont have as much trouble finding an opponent. If you'd rather have a singleplayer experience, the arcade mode is fantastic. Each map presents different challenges and strategies, and due to the small communtiy, global high scores are actually achievable, which can easily add hours of playtime.

Patch Notes 1.7.5 : There's a new build of the game! So what does it do? Cloud saves are now properly working in the demo app (this was also preventing any save data from being stored by the demo). Both the full game and demo support running with either DirectX 11 or DirectX 9. If you have an older video card and want to use DirectX 9, just right click INVERSUS in your steam library and select the appropriate option to play. Improved error message for when running the DirectX 11 version of the game on an incompatible video card. I also have a request for anyone playing online! The INVERSUS networking tech depends on each player's computer generating the exact same results. With the new addition of separate DX11 and DX9 builds of the game, it is a bit trickier to make sure they remain perfectly the same (I'll skip the details of why). If an online game does ever go out of sync, it results in a "Network Error Occured" message. Things look to be pretty stable, but if you do start seeing this error message, let me know by emailing supporthypersect.com so I can fix any issues!. INVERSUS Deluxe Launch Date and Community Tournaments : On September 28th , your copy of INVERSUS is getting a bit more Deluxe! You'll have tons of new maps, new Versus mode bots, new unlocks, ranked online matches, balance updates, and much much more.. Online Multiplayer Refined (update 1.3.0) : INVERSUS has competition at its core and today we're making big strides towards getting players in matches more often and across more varied game modes! Lets talk about 2v2 battles. In the past, you could enter 2v2 as a solo player or by first making a team with a friend, but these two groups were matched up separately solos could only match with solos and teams could only fight other teams. With the new patch, solo players and grouped teams can mix into the same 2v2 game. This means more matches for everyone! Continuing with 2v2 improvements, Im happy to announce that INVERSUS now supports multiple local players joining an online game! You and a friend can team up on the couch, enter matchmaking from the same computer and fight other players online. In private 2v2 games you can mix local players and online friends in any combination -- even three players at your house playing with one player at a friends house. The 1.3 update also changes the cadence of how public matches are played. In the past, you would search for players until the lobby was full. Then you would play continuously with that group until someone dropped out. Games would often last a long time and both players would generally leave in unison. This made it hard to find a match if you joined while all existing lobbies were full. Youll now get prompted to search for a new opponent after every couple maps in a public game. This will either find any stragglers or rematch with your opponent for another bout. If you want to see how all this works in practice, check out the demo video here! And now lets dig into the full patch notes for the detailed oriented among you: Primary Updates Multiple local players can join in online games together (two in public team games and up to three in private games) Players are asked to re-enter public matchmaking after two matches have been completed (this results in either 2 arcade maps or best of three maps in a versus game) Players in team-based matchmaking and solo-based matchmaking can now play together. Added an introduction animation to online matches showing which players are facing off Worldwide matchmaking kicks in instantly if there are no local matches to be found. This could previously take up to 30 seconds. Added six new emotes Minor Updates Two of the pickups were moved in the map Pipes to better utilize the outer ring and create a more interesting flow. Slightly increased the enemy ship hit box in arcade mode to reduce extreme cases of enemies getting pushed away from adjacently flipped tiles Effects that perform color inversion (e.g. projectile clashes) again render in areas that hang off the tiled map.. Patch Notes 1.2.2 : The latest build of the game has the following updates: A master volume slider was added to the audio options. Nine new unlockable color palettes have been added. The order of the old palettes moved around also, but all of your unlocked colors are still there. Fixed a bug where one of the emotes was not selectable. For those interested in what the version 1.2.1 did the other day, it was just a small logic fix that made selecting no modes in solo matchmaking search every game mode.. INVERSUS Deluxe (update 1.5.8) : INVERSUS Deluxe is out as a free expansion for all existing players and is bundled in as part of the game for all new players! So what is new in the Deluxe edition? AI Bots in Versus Mode Challenge bots in 1v1 or let them fill in some empty slots in your local 2v2 game. Feeling confident in your skills? Try bumping up the difficulty. True masters will be rewarded. More Maps Learn new strategies on twelve new versus maps and four new arcade maps! Split Shots INVERSUS gets its first new power with the split shot pickup. When split shot bullets hit a wall, they split into two bullets traveling left and right. A well placed attack is a great way to capture territory on the map. Online Skill Ranking Earn and lose rank points based on your performance in competitive online multiplayer. Defeat high skilled players to rise past your friends on the new Rank Points leaderboard! Good Looks INVERSUS just got a makeover with high definition materials and soft shadows! Unlockable Motion Trails Players can now unlock and equip motion trail effects to show off online or at home! And So Much More! Who likes patch notes? If you didnt answer "yes", you might want to turn back because we are about to get knee deep in patch notes. New enemies in Arcade mode Online match intros show player levels and rank points Arcade maps are rated on a 5-star scale instead of 3-stars Support for multiple connected keyboards being assigned to separate players Tweaked scroll speed on map Ribbon Minor adjustment to ammo regeneration interval Input device is selected though button press instead of the controller list menu Experience levels are earned faster and prestige afet 99 levels.. Patch Notes 1.5.14 (minor bug fixes) : A small patch released to day that fixes a couple small bugs. It was possible for the audio to get muffled after entering the options menu. This has been fixed. The arcade map "Tiles" was rendering slightly off center. It is now very much centered.. New INVERSUS Deluxe Demo! : INVERSUS now has a free demo on Steam! The demo supports local play against the computer and friends, while the full game is required to play online matches and view the leaderboards. In Versus mode, you can unlock the first two maps and play with up to four players! Computer players can fight at the 2-star difficulty tier - perfect for learning the ropes.. Patch Notes 1.5.12 : Another small patch hits today and it's all about balancing arcade map unlocks! The required star counts for unlocking earlier maps have been reduced, but the later maps are still just as hard to get.
