No matter who you ask, they can tell you the best way to exercise. There are the people who swear the only way to lose weight and get in shape is spend hours on a treadmill, elliptical or other piece of cardio equipment. Or talk to the weight junkies and hear you have to lift heavy weights everyday. Still others choose to spend their time dancing in Zumba class or spinning their way to sleeker figures.

How do you know which route is right for you? Let me start by saying it's whatever keeps you moving. If the only way you will exercise is to walk, than walk! Walking is great exercise. Or if you need some competition, sign up for a race and do a 5K. Whatever motivates you to be healthy is the right way for you to exercise.

For those of you wanting to step up your current fitness level, you may have to step out of your comfort zone. I spent a year doing nothing more than running a treadmill. I faithfully arrived at the gym every morning at 8:30 am after dropping my son off at preschool and ran for an hour and half. I steadily increased my distance and speed and never lost a pound. I didn't gain a pound either, but there was no change in my physique. I was in shape, but I wanted more. I wanted to look in shape. I needed weights!

Weight training gets a bad rap with women. We look around the gym and see the meat-heads lingering around the weight machines and know we do NOT want to look like them. We want to be trim and fit, not bulky. We have sweaters for bulk, we want our bodies to be slim. Consequently, we stick to our cardio machines and fitness classes, never seeing our bodies transform as we desperately desire. But, we stick it out, hoping it magically changes.
