Considering I racked up over 17 hours of gameplay with Freecell Quest I think it's safe to say that I enjoyed it. However, those hours were weeks ago and I've barely touched the game since. This is due to the fact that at around the halfway point it suddenly stops being rewarding and every one of the many, many levels feels like such a slog. I only managed to unlock 13 of the 36 trophies/achievements, the rest of which would require hundreds of hours to win. I'm sorry, I just don't have that amount of time. The upgrade system is kinda pointless as the levels cause more damage to you the further you progress, so the increased health bar makes no difference. The RPG element is nice, but more could have been done with it. I do like how they've basically turned a free Microsoft game into an adventure, and some the music here is really cool. They should release a digital soundtrack album. I've contacted the devs about this, but they never responded. A negative review of Freecell Quest is not justified. I found it very addictive and crafted two badges from the trading cards, but, as I said, it just stops being fun halfway through. Most certainly worth picking up in a sale if you see it, but there's more rewarding card games out there.. Recommended with a caveat: I enjoy FreeCell. I enjoyed this game. If you enjoy FreeCell, I think you probably will enjoy this game. It is FreeCell plus some interesting twists, such as anywhere from 2 to 8 suits (rather than always 4), varying numbers of stacks, varying numbers of free cells, and "spells" that you can use to affect the cards in various ways, such as causing a stack to be shuffled or pulling a card towards the bottom of its stack. Going into it, I thought I was going to find all these nonstandard variations cheesy (especially the "spells"), but they turned out to be fun. If you're looking at this game for the claimed RPG aspects, though, you might be disappointed. From this point of view, it seems like a half-done game. There's a nice map, and I guess the stuff like spells, money, hit points (you're "attacked" by bolts of energy every so often) counts as "RPG" to some degree. But it's very, very bland. What I would consider the "real" RPG aspects - like a story, a campaign, etc. - are basically nothing more than "Now you're playing FreeCell in the Kingdom of Shaboobala. Now you're playing FreeCell in the United Provinces of Goosebum. Now you're playing FreeCell in the Republic of Zorfink." Another issue with the RPG aspect is that the economy is very, very out of balance. This thing you can buy for 10000 gold? Oh, you can sell it for 12 gold. Should I rest in this city, which would cost me 18% of my gold? Or should I cast a "Recall" spell to go back to another city, where I could rest for 0.0000002% of my gold? Various things like that. As for being attacked by bolts of energy, I guess it's interesting at first, but pretty quickly it became more or less trivial to deal with. Thereafter, the only times that the bolts are actually able to damage you are when you forget that you're not just playing FreeCell. Suddenly there's a bolt, and you lose some HP, and you're annoyed a little, but otherwise it's basically a non-event. Honestly, I pretty quickly found myself wishing there was an option to just play FreeCell, with the interesting variants mentioned above and without all of the superficial RPG aspects. I guess most of what I just wrote is negative, so I want to end by stressing again: I enjoyed this game, and if you enjoy FreeCell, you'll probably enjoy it too.. This project is a Solitaire with RPG elements. The character moves on a very large map, from one point to another. At each point - a city that should be released, and this - playing solitaire. The game is very very best, very pleasant to the perception, especially music, he nenapryagyayuschaya and helps to focus on the game.. I wanted to enjoy the game, and for the most part I did. until I came across random times when I COULDNT MOVE A STACK OF CARDS! this wouldnt be so bad if it only happened every once in a while. but it happened so often that I gave up and quit the game.. The attempt to add an RPG layer to the classic FreeCell gameplay is a good idea, but the execution in this game doesn't quite live up to the challenge of making it compelling. A single background for all games, a lack of on-boarding for player objectives leaves the both sides of the game feeling dragged down by the other.. This is the most diabolical idea for a game I've ever encountered. I want these hours back. Then again, I don't. I love you, FreeCell Quest. Never speak to me again. We're not good for one another.. Got this from the Yogscast Humble Bundle. This is a frustrating but fun game, it's a borderline no to recommendation though. It has a lot of good ideas (and actually a reasonable price), but some utter rubbish ones that make the game ultimately not worth it. If I were to recommend it, it would be because its fun in short bursts, you can tell that some care has gone into at least parts of it and it adds something different to a standard card game. However the great ideas - like unlocking the freecell cells, making your way across the map, the different amount of collumns/suits/difficulties are overshadowed by the combat and mana system. More often than not you have to take steps backwards to stop cards "shooting" you, which isn't fun. It's frustrating. It's like doing a sudoku and someone changing one of the numbers half way through. Effectively cancelling out your progress. The power-ups are completely random as well. Eventually I was doing a puzzle and randomising all the red cards until I got a draw that wasn't rock hard to complete. It's not a good mechanic when pressing the same button on the same puzzle can make it so much harder or so much easier. that's essentially shuffling the cards and trying again. That's a minor problem though compared to the attacks. 99% of my mana usage was to stop the attacks, so I could make the game fun. I don't think that's what it was meant for. I had gotten over this initially, but going back to play it again, there were other things, I liberated a city, went somewhere else. City got attacked. Fine, I'l
