Free Download The Chase
Jack Hammond is sentenced to life in prison, but manages to escape. To get away from the police he takes a girl as hostage and drives off in her car. The girl happens to be the only daughter of one of the richest men in the state. In a while the car chase is being broadcast live on every TV-channel, covering the event from helicopters, the backseat of a police car, the pavement of the highway etc.
This actually was a pretty good farce really. I do agree that it was pretty cheezy full of stock characters and B-Movie acting, but c'mon! It was a send up of how the media blows everything up to something massive and how it sends everyone farther, feeding the media's fire in the process. What made this apt to me was that after seeing this movie, I watched O.J. take that mid-day drive down the highway with the LAPD right behind him. The movie got at least the media part right.
Also, it's fun to watch Henry Rollins play a cop (of all things) and Anthony Kiedis and Flea from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers as redneck hero wannabes. So long as you don't take this movie too seriously, it's pretty funny.
Also, watch right up to after the credits - Charlie's nod to his dad's role in "Apocalypse Now" is just hilarious. I like the way the movie's subplot plays out as a satire of TV news coverage. Once the car chase is underway suddenly they're on every channel -- one TV news team has a guy strapped to a van pulling alongside the fleeing car, hoping for a snippet of an interview, and EVERY news show covering the chase has a snappy graphic to go along with the story (one shows the heiress with her mouth duct-taped, captioned "TERROR AT 100 MPH"). Two Newport Beach cops, who just *happened* to have a reality-show producer and cameraman riding along for the day, suddenly find themselves front and center while the fleeing convict gets ever closer to the Mexican border, and at the final border showdown, when the "victim" has a gun to the TV-producer's head, and you'd think he'd be afraid for his safety, he instead hisses at his cameraman, "Get. A Shot. Of THISSSS!!!"
