In this sequel to first person space combat simulation game Fury³ and a spiritual sequel to the space combat simulator Terminal Velocity, the Terran Pyrrhic victory over the Bion genetically engineered invaders have left Earth in shambles, which directly led to a global economic collapse and rioting. However, the Bions have actually not been entirely defeated and they announce their return for round two by attacking and destroying the training facility where the Earth forces trained their space pilots. A veteran of the previous war is called in to pilot an experimental space fighter called Hellbender and destroy the Bions and their headquarters before they can attack Earth with full force. The player is assisted throughout the game by Hellbender's female A.I. navigator called E.V.E. (short for Enhanced Virtual Entity) that's voiced by The X-Files star Gillian Anderson. The story is told through cutscenes. The missions boil down to destroying all enemies and other targets in the area with a few door switch puzzles thrown in for variety. The locations in the game include open areas on another planet, indoor facilities and space facilities. The game features an instrumental techno soundtrack composed specifically for the game.
In this sequel to space combat simulator Fury³, the genetically engineered Bions return for round two. The player must destroy them with the help of an experimental space fighter called Hellbender and its female A.I. navigator, E.V.E.
You are the only surviving pilot of the Colition of Independent Planets' fighting force. The one who must save the Earth from the Bions, a race of Terminator-like warriors intent on destroying their creators. One space-fighter remains, the brand new and untested 'Hellbender'. With it you will have to destroy the Bions' weaponry and outposts on the planets they have infiltrated.

That's a brief outline of 'Hellbender', a game I've been playing regularly since 1999. Other games have come and gone but 'Hellbender' remains the one of which I never tire. There's always something different to be found on every level and in some ways the game gives the impression that it's alive. Yes, it's as if 'Hellbender' has a life of its own. Great graphics for the time, faultless operation and a wide vista of changing landscapes keep me playing it for many, many hours.

Use 'Wikipedia' to find out the history of the game and its antecedents. Unfortunately the game won't (to my limited technical knowledge) run on later platforms than Windows 98.
