I remember seeing the first Feast movie years ago and hating it. I read that it was made by Project Greenlight, a joint venture of actors financing promising directors to direct their own movies, and this is the best they could come up with? Now I saw the second one and I feel sorry for the money gone to waste. (there is a third film!) It is apparent that the director has a sense of humor and tries to shoot a horror comedy. He also mocks the clichés of grindhouse films like introducing characters with nicknames only (heroine, biker and the like)which is a decent idea. But then he takes it too far and makes the viewer roll their eyes every time a similar scene pops up. The exaggeration is definitely unnecessary, making somehow funny scenes turn into tasteless family-guy like sketches. Like in one scene they dissect a dead alien and squirt its bodily fluids on the people by accident, then they keep doing it for the next seven minutes. Or a rather infamous scene where a baby is killed by one of the characters and eaten by the monsters. The cowardice shown by the character is funny, the on screen death of an infant? not so much. Couple that with the fact that the monsters genitals are always on screen to the point of waving it towards the viewers faces, you got yourself a movie devoid of taste, wits and...well... fun.
The R-Rated Version, that is available at chains like Wal-Mart, misses out only a couple of scenes that aren't that unrated-worthy. Sometimes these shots are only a couple of seconds longer and show some more story pieces.
